Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Earlimart, California. If you require a hair drug or alcohol test, Accredited Drug Testing excels in hair testing with facilities across cities Nationwide. Hair tests need 1.5 to 2 inches of head or body hair. Drug and alcohol/ETG tests can also be customized.

The preference for drug testing methods has increasingly leaned towards hair follicle tests recently. Employers, courts, and Substance Abuse experts prefer hair drug tests over urine tests. Employers, courts, and probation officers find hair tests beneficial for their zero-drug policies. Hair follicle testing offers a more extended drug detection period, typically up to 90 days, conducted under observation, making it extremely reliable. Urine tests remain the most accurate for recent use.

What it is, How it works

Seen as a reliable method, hair testing serves as an effective means for detecting drug and alcohol usage. By capturing biomarkers in the fibers of a growing hair strand, hair offers a long-term record of alcohol and drug use. Collected close to the scalp, hair can reveal up to roughly a 3-month detection timeframe for alcohol and substances. Hair is straightforward to collect, somewhat challenging to tamper with, and convenient to ship.

A 1.5-inch segment of approximately 200 hair strands (comparable to the size of a #2 pencil) nearest the scalp will yield 100mg of hair, the optimal sample for testing and verification. For EtG, add-ons, and/or over 10-panel tests, 150mg of the sample is advisable. We advocate using a jeweler’s scale to weigh the sample. If scalp hair isn't an option, an equal quantity of body hair can be collected. When mentioning head hair, we are specifically referring to scalp hair. Body hair denotes all other hair types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The processing of a drug test result in a laboratory encompasses four main steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning deals with the preliminary handling of a sample within a lab’s system. This process includes verifying that the sample was sealed and transported correctly, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and finalizing any additional data entry not covered by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening involves a swift initial check for drugs of abuse. Screening serves as a cost-effective method to eliminate drug usage in most samples, yet a positive screen needs verification to be legally admissible. Samples preliminarily positive in Screening require a follow-up confirmation.

Should a sample be preliminarily positive in the Screening phase, additional hair is extracted from the initial sample and prepped for Extraction. During this phase, drugs are isolated from hair at much lower concentrations compared to other methods (such as urine or oral fluid), making hair drug screening one of the most challenging testing methodologies.

Confirmation of any positive screening outcome is performed through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positive samples are cleansed before confirmation if necessary. The entire lab process from Accessioning to Confirmation is scrutinized under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair categorization and ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection timeframe: Hair drug tests can detect drug use for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests which have a shorter timeframe.
  • Challenging to deceive: It is exceedingly difficult to deceive a hair drug test, enhancing the accuracy of the results.
  • Offers historical insights: Provides a usage pattern of drugs over time, rather than merely recent usage.

Limitations:

  • Recent usage undetectable: It takes around 5-7 days for drugs to become evident in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests are typically pricier than other testing methods.
  • Result variability: Elements such as hair color and individual hair growth differences can impact the drug metabolite concentration in hair.

Note: Despite being commonly called "hair follicle tests", the test actually examines the hair strand and not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Earlimart, CA, hair follicle testing clearly surpasses traditional urine testing. It provides an extensive detection window and superior accuracy, crucial for reliable results. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
