Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Royal Palm Ranches, Florida. If a hair drug or alcohol test is required, Accredited Drug Testing provides expertise in hair testing with centers across all cities nationwide capable of conducting hair tests. Generally, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the crown or body is usable. Hair tests can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, or offer other custom testing options.

In recent times, hair follicle drug tests have become a more prevalent method of drug testing. Numerous employers, courts, and Substance Abuse professionals now prefer hair drug tests over conventional urine tests. Hair tests are favored by employers with zero-tolerance drug policies, courts, and those overseeing probation. A major advantage of hair tests is their extensive detection window, usually up to 90 days, with minimal possibilities for adulteration. Nevertheless, urine tests remain optimal for detecting recent drug use within the past 5 days.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is recognized as a potent method for detecting substance and alcohol usage. It offers a prolonged account of substance consumption by capturing biomarkers within the fibers of a developing hair strand. Hair gathered near the scalp can reveal substance usage for up to a 3-month window for alcohol and other substances. Hair is straightforward to collect, challenging to tamper with, and convenient to transport.

A sample measuring 1.5 inches of approximately 200 hair strands (comparable to the size of a #2 pencil) nearest the scalp will yield 100mg, which is the optimal sample size for assessments. For EtG, additional procedures, and/or analyses exceeding 10 panels, 150mg is advised. Using a jeweler’s scale to measure the specimen is suggested. If scalp hair is inaccessible, a comparable amount of body hair can be used. When referencing head hair, only scalp hair is meant. Body hair encompasses all other types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory procedure for producing a drug test outcome entails four key steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning involves the initial processing of a sample into a lab's system. This process includes ensuring that the sample was appropriately sealed and dispatched, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any additional data entry not covered by an electronic custody chain.

Screening involves a preliminary examination for substance misuse. Although Screening is cost-efficient for eliminating substance use in the majority of samples, a confirmed positive is necessary for court acceptance. Any samples that give an initial positive in Screening require further confirmation.

If a sample tests presumptively positive during Screening, additional hair is retrieved from the initial sample for Extraction. During this phase, substances are extracted from hair at concentrations significantly lower than other testing methods (e.g., urine or oral fluids), making hair drug testing the most complex technique to conduct.

Confirmation of any positive screening result is executed using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. Any presumptively positive samples are washed before confirmation as necessary. The entire process from Accessioning to Confirmation is conducted under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and accredited to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair tests can reveal drug use over a 90-day span, while urine tests offer a shorter detection frame.
  • High resistance to tampering: Hair tests are notably difficult to adulterate, ensuring accurate results.
  • Provides historical insight: It delivers a timeline of substance use, not merely recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Inability to detect recent use: Substances take 5-7 days to become detectable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair tests generally incur higher costs compared to other drug testing methods.
  • Result variability: Factors like hair color and individual hair growth differ which can influence metabolite levels in hair.

Note: Although often termed "hair follicle tests", the procedure evaluates the hair strand, not the follicle underneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Hair follicle testing offers a significant advantage over traditional urine tests in Royal Palm Ranches, FL. With superior detection accuracy and reliability, hair tests provide longer detection periods, making them invaluable for employers. In comparison to urine tests, hair follicle testing identifies drug use history over months, not days, which gives a broader understanding of an individual's substance use patterns.
This enhanced scope is critical for maintaining workplace safety and policy adherence.

  • Longer detection span of up to 90 days
  • Greater accuracy in result confirmation
  • Reliable and comprehensive assessments

Extended Detection Window

One notable advantage of hair follicle testing in Royal Palm Ranches, FL, is its extended detection window. Unlike other methods, hair tests trace drug use history up to 90 days, providing a detailed perspective on an individual's substance use behavior. Employers gain a deeper insight into candidates' or employees' drug usage patterns, aiding in informed decision-making.
Such testing ensures a thorough evaluation of potential or current workforce members.

  • Detection span covers up to 90 days
  • Comprehensive substance history assessment

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
