Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug assessments in Clyo, Georgia. When a hair drug or alcohol examination is required, Accredited Drug Testing excels in hair analysis, with testing sites available in every city across the Nation capable of executing a hair test. Generally, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the crown or body can be utilized. Hair analyses can determine drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other tailored testing needs.

In recent times, drug screening has increasingly included the use of hair follicle tests. Numerous employers, judicial systems, and Substance Abuse experts are opting for hair drug assessments over traditional urine tests. Hair follicle assessments are favored by employers with zero-tolerance drug policies, legal entities, and probationary individuals. The main advantage of a hair follicle test is its prolonged detection window for drug activity, typically extending to 90 days, conducted in an observed manner, and nearly impossible to rig. However, for detecting recent drug use within five days, urine tests remain the most precise method.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis has emerged as a highly effective method for detecting drug and alcohol usage. Capturing biomarkers within the strands, hair offers an extended record of substance consumption while growing. Collected near the scalp, it provides roughly a 3-month timeframe for detecting drugs and alcohol. Hair is easy to gather, hard to tamper with, and convenient for transport.

A 1.5-inch clipping comprising around 200 strands (about the dimension of a standard #2 pencil) cut closest to the scalp yields 100mg of hair, deemed the optimal sample for testing. For EtG screening, additional panels, or tests exceeding 10 panels, 150mg is advocated. We suggest using a jeweler’s scale for accurate weighing. If scalp hair is absent, a similar quantity of body hair can be sourced. By head hair, we mean only scalp hair, whereas body hair encompasses all alternative hair types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Outline

The key steps in a lab's drug testing process comprise Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning signifies the initial sample processing phase within a lab's system. It entails verifying proper sealing and shipping, assigning a unique LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any remaining data entry not covered by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening is a preliminary check for drug substances. This budget-friendly process helps eliminate drug usage in most samples, though any positive outcomes must undergo confirmation for legal acceptance. Samples with a presumptive positive in Screening need a follow-up verification.

If a sample tests presumptively positive during Screening, additional hair is extracted from the original sample and readied for Extraction. This phase involves extracting drugs from hair at lower concentrations than found in alternative methodologies (e.g., urine or oral fluid), rendering hair drug testing the most challenging method to execute.

Verification of any positive screening outcome is performed using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. Samples identified as presumptive positive are cleansed prior to verification when necessary. The entire lab procedure from Accessioning through Confirmation is scrutinized under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Perks of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug screening can spot drug usage up to 90 days, unlike urine screenings with shorter detection windows.
  • Hard to falsify: Cheating a hair drug test is quite challenging, enhancing the accuracy of results.
  • Offers chronological insights: It presents a timeline of drug consumption over time, not just recent instances.

Drawbacks:

  • Inability to identify recent usage: Drug traces in hair become noticeable only after around 5-7 days.
  • Expense: Hair drug testing generally costs more than other testing techniques.
  • Result variability: Elements such as hair color and unique growth patterns can influence drug metabolite presence in the hair.

Note: Often labeled as "hair follicle tests," the actual analysis focuses on the strand rather than the follicle below the scalp

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing in Clyo, GA

Traditional urine tests often miss drug use due to their limited detection window, whereas hair testing offers superior accuracy by tracing substance consumption up to 90 days prior. Hair analysis is less prone to manipulation, providing a reliable reflection of an individual’s substance history. This makes hair testing more robust for both employers and legal scenarios where integrity is vital.

Extended Detection Window

Extended Detection Window in Clyo, GA

The capability of hair follicle testing to detect drug use spans up to 90 days, presenting employers with a detailed historical insight into an individual's substance use. This extensive detection period offers a broader understanding of a candidate’s behaviors, supporting informed hiring and compliance decisions that ensure safety and professionalism in the workplace.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
