Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Coal Mountain, Georgia. If you're in need of a hair drug or alcohol analysis, our specialty lies in hair testing with facilities across the country, ready to conduct your test. Generally, you require 1.5 to 2 inches of hair either from your crown or body. Hair testing can reveal drugs, alcohol/ETG, among other tailored hair analysis options.

Recently, drug testing methods have pivoted towards hair follicle tests more frequently. A variety of employers, judicial systems, and Substance Abuse experts have begun favoring hair tests over conventional urine testing. Employers with strict no-drug-use policies, courts, and probation individuals rely on these tests. The strength of hair follicle testing lies in its lengthy drug detection window of up to 90 days, supervised sample collection, and its near immunity to tampering. Yet, for drug use in the past 5 days, urine tests remain the gold standard.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis has emerged as an effective instrument for identifying drug and alcohol use. Hair retains a prolonged record of alcohol and drug consumption by capturing biomarkers within the strands' fibers. By obtaining hair samples close to the scalp, it is possible to detect alcohol and drug use over an approximately three-month period. Hair collection is straightforward, somewhat resistant to tampering, and convenient for transport.

A 1.5-inch section of roughly 200 hair strands (comparable to a #2 pencil in thickness) nearest to the scalp can yield about 100mg of hair, which is perfect for screening and verification. For EtG, additional testing, and/or tests exceeding 10 panels, it is advisable to have 150mg of the sample. We suggest using a jeweler's scale for weighing the sample. If scalp hair is not available, a comparable quantity of body hair can be collected. When we mention head hair, we specifically mean scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other hair types, such as facial and axillary hair.

Process Overview

The laboratory processing of a drug test comprises four essential steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

During Accessioning, the sample undergoes initial processing into the laboratory's system, ensuring the sample was correctly sealed and sent, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and finishing any additional data entry absent from an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening serves as a preliminary check for drug abuse. While it is a cost-effective method for ruling out drug use in most samples, a positive screening must be verified for legal admissibility. Any samples that test presumptively positive in the Screening require a secondary confirmation.

If Screening indicates a presumptive positive, additional hair is extracted from the original sample for Extraction. This stage involves extracting drugs from hair at significantly lower concentrations than other methods (such as urine or oral fluid), making hair drug screening the most complex method to execute.

GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS are employed for confirming any positive screening findings. All presumptive positive samples are washed before confirmation as necessary. The complete laboratory process from Accessioning to Confirmation is reviewed under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests can identify drug use for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests which have a shorter detection period.
  • Accuracy: Cheating a hair drug test is very challenging, leading to more precise outcomes.
  • Historical insight: It offers a pattern of drug usage across time, rather than just recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Lack of recent use detection: Drugs take around 5-7 days to become detectable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests are typically costlier than other drug testing techniques.
  • Fluctuations in results: Variables like hair color and individual hair growth differences can influence drug metabolite concentrations in hair.

Note: Although often called "hair follicle tests", the examination assesses the hair strand instead of the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

When comparing hair follicle testing with traditional urine methods, there are several key benefits in Coal Mountain, GA. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
