In Graysville, Georgia, Accredited Drug Testing offers thorough hair follicle drug evaluations. This specialized service is available nationwide. Valid specimens require 1.5-2 inches of hair, though body hair might suffice. Hair analysis is perfect for drug, alcohol/ETG, or tailored testing.

The hair follicle method has recently become a popular drug testing approach. It's favored by employers with strict no-drug-use policies, judiciary bodies, and rehab experts. Unlike urine tests, hair assessments offer an extended drug detection period of up to 90 days, are observed during collection, and are hard to tamper with. Yet, urine tests remain ideal for detecting recent usage within the past five days.

What it is, How it works

Hair assessments have emerged as an effective resource for detecting alcohol and drug consumption. Hair offers a prolonged history of drug and alcohol use by securing biomarkers within the strands of growing hair. When cut near the scalp, it can reveal up to a three-month timeframe for alcohol and drug detection. Hair collection is straightforward, challenging to tamper with, and simple to transport.

A hair sample of 1.5 inches consisting of approximately 200 strands (similar to the width of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp yields about 100mg, which is optimal for both screening and confirmation. For EtG, extended tests, and those exceeding 10 panels, a 150mg specimen is advisable. We suggest using a jeweler's scale to measure the specimen's weight. If scalp hair isn't available, a comparable quantity of body hair can be used. When mentioning head hair, it solely refers to scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other hair forms (such as facial and axillary).

Process Overview

Four primary stages constitute the lab processing of a drug testing result: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning pertains to the sample's initial processing into a lab's system, ensuring the sample was sealed and transported correctly, allocating a unique LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and finalizing any further data input not managed by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening consists of a preliminary swift verification for drug misuse. While cost-effective for ruling out drug use in the majority of samples, a positive result in Screening requires confirmation to be admissible in a legal setting. Samples that suggest a positive outcome in Screening need a subsequent confirmation.

For samples presumed positive during the Screening phase, further hair is extracted from the original sample and readied for Extraction. Here, drugs are separated from hair at concentrations significantly lower than other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), making hair drug screening the most challenging method to undertake.

Positive screening outcomes are confirmed through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS techniques. All provisional positive samples are cleaned before confirmation as required. The entire laboratory regimen from Accessioning to Confirmation undergoes a review under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and is accredited to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection window: Hair drug tests identify drug use for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests which offer a shorter timeframe.
  • Difficult to deceive: It is very challenging to falsify a hair drug test, enhancing the accuracy of results.
  • Offers historic information: It can illustrate a pattern of drug use spanning time, rather than just recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Incapable of detecting recent use: Approximately 5-7 days are required for drug presence to manifest in hair.
  • Cost implications: Hair drug tests are typically pricier than alternative drug testing approaches.
  • Result variations: Elements such as hair color and individual growth rates can influence the concentration of drug metabolites in hair.

Note: Although commonly known as "hair follicle tests", the examination evaluates the hair strand and not the follicle beneath the scalp

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Graysville, GA, hair follicle testing easily outshines urine tests. It offers an extended detection period of up to 90 days, whereas urine can only detect recent use. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
