Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services throughout Silver City, Georgia. When you need a hair drug or alcohol screen, our expertise lies in hair testing, with a network of centers across America equipped for hair analysis. A minimum of 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the head's crown or body can typically be tested. Various drug, alcohol/ETG, or tailored testing options are available.

Recently, there's been a notable rise in using hair follicle drug tests over traditional methods. Employers, judicial systems, and substance abuse professionals increasingly prefer these tests rather than standard urine tests. Zero-tolerance companies, courts, and probation officers utilize hair testing due to its extended detection abilities, usually up to 90 days, collected under observation, minimizing the chance of tampering. However, for detecting recent drug use within about five days, urine tests remain the most precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis has emerged as an effective method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair strands capture long-lasting evidence of alcohol and drugs by absorbing biomarkers within the hair’s growing fibers. When gathered from the scalp, hair can offer a detection period of up to roughly 3 months for both alcohol and drugs. Collecting hair samples is straightforward, relatively tough to tamper with, and simple to transport.

A sample measuring 1.5 inches with about 200 hairs (equivalent to a #2 pencil's width) nearest to the scalp yields 100mg of hair, which is optimal for both screening and confirmation. For EtG, additional tests, and/or evaluations exceeding 10 panels, it's advised to use 150mg of the sample. We suggest measuring the sample with a jeweler’s scale. If no scalp hair is available, equivalent body hair may be used. "Head hair" specifically refers to scalp hair. "Body hair" pertains to all other hair types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The procedure for processing drug test results in a lab encompasses four essential steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning includes the initial integration of a sample into a lab’s system. This process ensures the sample’s seal and shipping were done correctly, assigns a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes any data entry absent from an electronic chain of custody process.

Screening consists of an initial swift assessment for drug misuse. Although Screening is a cost-effective method to dismiss most samples for drug usage, a positive screen demands confirmation to be valid in legal settings. Samples that are tentatively positive in Screening require further confirmation.

If a sample results in a tentative positive during Screening, additional hair is retrieved from the original sample for Extraction. Here, drugs are extracted at far lower concentrations than in other techniques (such as urine or oral fluid), thus making hair drug screening extraordinarily challenging.

Confirmation of any positive screen result is executed via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. Any tentatively positive samples undergo washing as needed before confirmation. The complete lab process from Accessioning to Confirmation is examined under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and adheres to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests can reveal drug use up to 90 days, unlike urine tests which have a shorter detection timeframe.
  • Cheating difficulty: It is hard to manipulate a hair drug test, ensuring more precise outcomes.
  • Provides usage history: It can show a pattern of drug use over time, beyond immediate consumption.

Limitations:

  • Inability to detect recent usage: Drugs become detectable in hair after about 5-7 days.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests tend to be pricier than other drug testing techniques.
  • Result variations: Factors like hair color and individual hair growth differences can influence drug metabolite concentration in hair.

Note: Commonly referred to as "hair follicle tests", these tests actually analyze the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

The advantages of hair follicle testing over urine tests are especially pertinent in Silver City, GA. This method proves exceptionally beneficial due to its broad detection window and almost foolproof nature. Hair tests often prevail thanks to their reliable accuracy, providing insights urine tests might miss.

The traditional urine test is often limited by time, offering short-term snapshots of usage. In contrast, hair testing gives a more comprehensive overview, becoming increasingly favored by employers who prioritize accurate assessments.

Extended Detection Window

In Silver City, GA, hair follicle testing offers an extended detection window for drug use. With the capability to identify substances up to 90 days prior, it provides a complete overview of a person’s substance behavior.

This longer detection period is invaluable to employers seeking detailed insights into an applicant’s history. Rather than short-term assessments, hair testing delivers contextual data on long-term habits.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Hair follicle testing in Silver City, GA acts as a tamper-resistant approach to drug evaluations. By significantly reducing the potential for sample adulteration, this method guarantees credible and indisputable results.

Eliminating the risks associated with interference, hair tests provide an advantage in obtaining genuine results. While other tests might be manipulated, hair analysis ensures unmatched security and integrity.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
