Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug assessments in Lagro, Indiana. Whether you need a hair drug or alcohol screening, we are experts, offering testing at numerous centers nationwide. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the head or body is required. Tests can identify drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other tailor-made testing solutions.

In recent times, hair follicle drug assessments have become more commonplace. Employers, judicial systems, and Substance Abuse experts have increasingly opted for hair over traditional urine tests. Hair tests are favored by zero-tolerance policies, legal frameworks, and those on probation. The main advantage is a detection duration reaching up to 90 days, with a supervised collection process that's almost impossible to manipulate. Nevertheless, for detecting recent drug usage within the past 5 days, urine tests maintain top accuracy.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis is now recognized as an effective method for detecting alcohol and drug consumption. It provides a retrospective timeline of substance use by embedding indicators within the strands of hair as they grow. When taken from near the scalp, hair can reveal a detection period for drugs and alcohol stretching back up to about three months. This sampling is easy to gather, not easily tampered with, and straightforward to send.

A 1.5-inch segment consisting of roughly 200 hair strands (comparable to a #2 pencil's thickness) from nearest the scalp yields 100mg of hair, which is the preferred amount for both screening and confirming tests. When dealing with EtG, additional substances, or tests exceeding 10 panels, a 150mg sample is advised. It's recommended to weigh the sample using a jeweler’s scale. In the absence of scalp hair, a similar quantity of body hair is acceptable. By head hair, we mean exclusively scalp hair. All other types of hair, such as facial, underarm, etc., are categorized as body hair.

Process Overview

The drug testing procedure in labs encompasses four essential steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning is the initial step where a sample is integrated into a lab's database. This step includes confirming the sample's proper seal and shipment, allocating a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any additional data input not covered by an electronic custody chain system.

Screening is a preliminary expedited test for identifying drug abuse. While Screening is a cost-effective approach for eliminating drug usage for most samples, any positive results need verification to be court-admissible. Presumed positive samples in Screening do require further confirmation.

For samples deemed presumably positive during Screening, additional hair is extracted from the original sample and set for Extraction. At this stage, drugs are isolated from hair at significantly lower levels than in other methodologies (e.g., urine or oral fluids), making hair drug testing one of the most challenging methodologies.

Any affirmative result from screening is verified via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. Samples presumed positive are given a wash before confirmation if necessary. The whole lab process from Accessioning to Confirmation is audited under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation along with authentication to ISO / IEC 17025 criteria.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: By using hair drug tests, substance use can be identified for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests with shorter detection spans.
  • High reliability: The difficulty in falsifying a hair drug test contributes to its accuracy.
  • Historical usage patterns: This method can reveal long-term drug use patterns, not only short-term usage.

Limitations:

  • Lacks detection of immediate use: Hair typically takes around 5-7 days to show detectable drug levels.
  • Price: Hair drug tests are generally more costly than alternative testing methods.
  • Result variability: Variables such as hair color and individual hair growth rates can influence the drug metabolite levels in hair.

Note: Commonly termed as "hair follicle tests", the assessment actually evaluates the hair strand and not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Lagro, IN benefits significantly from hair follicle testing, which clearly surpasses urine tests due to its superior detection accuracy and dependability. Hair analysis can identify substance use long after drugs would have been flushed from the system in urine tests.

The enhanced accuracy of hair testing helps reduce false negatives and increases reliability in drug detection, making it a preferred choice for organizations requiring comprehensive assessments over traditional methods.

Extended Detection Window

Hair follicle testing in Lagro, IN offers an extended detection window, identifying drug use over a period of up to 90 days. This extensive timeframe grants employers a broader perspective on an individual's substance history, enhancing decision-making processes.

This capability of long-term drug detection is invaluable in offering a comprehensive overview of a subject's use, beyond what urine tests can present, solidifying confidence in interpreting results.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
