Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Chase, Maryland. If you're in need of a hair drug or alcohol test, turn to Accredited Drug Testing, experts in hair testing, with facilities Nationwide for conducting these tests. Generally, having 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from your head or body is necessary. Hair tests can screen for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other personalized testing needs.

In recent times, the preferred method for drug testing has increasingly shifted towards hair follicle drug testing. This is because many employers, judiciary bodies, and Substance Abuse specialists now opt for hair drug tests over traditional urine tests. Hair follicle tests are favored by organizations enforcing zero-tolerance drug policies, courts, and probation reports. Their main advantage is an extensive detection window, up to 90 days, with collection in an observed setting, making them nearly impossible to compromise. However, for detecting drug use within the last 5 days, the urine test remains the most precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is now considered a significant method for identifying drug and alcohol use. Hair acts as a record for long-term drug and alcohol consumption by capturing biomarkers within the strands of the developing hair. When taken near the scalp, hair can offer approximately a 90-day detection window for substance use. Hair sampling is easy, challenging to tamper with, and convenient to transport.

A 1.5-inch section of roughly 200 hair strands (comparable to a #2 pencil's width) nearest the scalp provides 100mg of hair, making it the optimal sample size for preliminary tests and validation. For tests involving EtG, add-ons, and/or over 10 panels, 150mg of the sample is advisable. We suggest measuring the sample with a precision scale. In cases where scalp hair is absent, a similar quantity of body hair can be utilized. By head hair, we mean exclusively scalp hair. Body hair encompasses other types of hair (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The drug testing process at the lab comprises four essential steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning entails the preliminary integration of a sample into the lab system. This phase ensures the sample is correctly sealed and sent, assigns a unique LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and fulfills any additional data input not managed by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening performs an initial cursory evaluation for substance abuse. Though cost-effective for eliminating drug use in many samples, any positive result in Screening must be verified to be legally acceptable. Samples testing positive in Screening require a subsequent confirmation.

Should a sample test presumptively positive during Screening, more hair is extracted from the original sample and processed for Extraction. In this stage, the concentration of drugs extracted from hair is significantly lower than with other techniques (such as urine or oral fluid), making hair drug screening the most challenging technique to execute.

Validation of a positive screening result occurs via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS or LC/MS/MS. Presumptively positive samples are cleaned prior to confirmation if necessary. The complete lab procedure from Accessioning to Confirmation is inspected under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests identify drug usage for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests which have a shorter time frame.
  • Hard to deceive: Hair drug tests are difficult to manipulate, ensuring more reliable results.
  • Showcases usage patterns: Provides insight into drug use trends over time, rather than only recent use.

Limitations:

  • Inability to detect recent usage: Drugs become detectable in hair after about 5-7 days.
  • Expense: Typically, hair drug testing costs more than other methods.
  • Result variability: Elements such as hair color and varying individual hair growth affect drug metabolite concentration in hair.

Note: Commonly misnamed "hair follicle tests," the test analyzes the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing in Chase, MD

Hair follicle testing offers numerous advantages over urine tests, particularly in its capacity for better detection accuracy and dependability. While urine tests can only detect recent substance usage, hair tests provide a broader history, uncovering patterns of drug use that might otherwise go unnoticed. This makes it ideal for organizations in Chase implementing meticulous drug-free policies.

Hair testing provides unmatched reliability compared to urine tests due to its longer detection window and inability to be tampered with or altered. Employers seeking to enforce zero-tolerance policies in Chase benefit from this increased reliability, ensuring a safer and more compliant work environment.

Extended Detection Window

The standout feature of hair follicle testing is its extended detection window, lasting up to 90 days. This expansive period provides employers in Chase with an in-depth view of a candidate's or employee's historical substance use, unearthing any patterns that could be critical for the role's demands. This timeline significantly surpasses the limited scope of urine testing.

By offering such an extensive look into an individual’s drug history, hair testing empowers businesses to make more informed decisions. This leads to not only fulfilling legal compliance but also fostering a safer and more trustworthy workplace environment in Chase, MD.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method in Chase, MD

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
