Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Josephville, MO. Whether you require a drug or alcohol hair test, Accredited Drug Testing offers specialized hair testing through centers nationwide, including every city. Generally, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from your head or body can be tested for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other specific options.

Hair follicle drug testing has become more common in recent years for conducting drug tests. Many employers, courts, and substance abuse professionals now prefer hair drug tests over traditional urine tests. Employers with strong anti-drug policies, courts, and probationers use hair follicle tests. The significant advantage of this method is its extended detection window, lasting up to 90 days, and its observation-based collection process that is difficult to alter. However, urine testing remains more precise for drug use detection within the last five days.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis is now regarded as an effective method for detecting drug and alcohol consumption. Hair captures a long-term record of alcohol and drug intake by entrapping biomarkers in the fibers of the developing hair strand. When collected in proximity to the scalp, hair can reveal up to a roughly 3-month detection period for alcohol and drugs. Hair is easy to gather, relatively hard to tamper with, and straightforward to dispatch.

A 1.5-inch section of approximately 200 strands of hair (roughly the thickness of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp will yield 100mg of hair, the optimal sample for analysis and validation. For EtG, additional tests, and/or assessments exceeding 10 panels, 150mg of the sample is advised. It is suggested to measure the sample using a jeweler's scale. If scalp hair cannot be obtained, a comparable quantity of body hair can be taken. When mentioning head hair, we are specifically referring to scalp hair. Body hair denotes all other types of hair (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The process of laboratory examination of a drug test result entails four primary phases: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning comprises the initial handling of a sample into a laboratory’s framework. This includes confirming that the sample was appropriately sealed and transported, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and finishing any extra data entry not covered by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening includes a preliminary quick assessment for substances of abuse. Though Screening serves as a cost-efficient method to eliminate drug usage in most samples, a positive screen requires confirmation for admissibility in court. Samples that are preliminarily positive in Screening need a subsequent confirmation.

If a sample shows a preliminary positive result at the Screening stage, additional hair is taken from the initial sample and readied for Extraction. At this stage, drugs are isolated from hair in a much lower concentration than other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), which is why hair drug testing is the most challenging technique to execute.

Any positive screening outcome is verified through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All samples presumed positive are cleansed before confirmation as required. The complete lab process from Accessioning to Confirmation undergoes review under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests can identify drug use for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests which have a shorter detection window.
  • Challenging to deceive: It's quite tough to manipulate a hair drug test, ensuring more precise results.
  • Offers historical insights: It provides a pattern of drug consumption over a duration, not just recent use.

Limitations:

  • Incapable of detecting recent use: Drugs typically become detectable in hair after about 5-7 days.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests are generally pricier compared to other drug testing techniques.
  • Variability in outcomes: Elements like hair color and individual differences in hair growth influence the concentration of drug metabolites in hair.

Note: Although often termed "hair follicle tests," the test actually inspects the hair strand rather than the follicle beneath the scalp

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing in Josephville, MO becomes evident when comparing them. While urine tests are traditional, hair testing offers superior accuracy and reliability. Hair tests are not limited to recent drug use; they provide a comprehensive look at an individual's history over months, effectively outperforming urine tests in this area.

Hair testing is less prone to manipulation and provides a longer history of drug use. Its superior detection capabilities up to 90 days make it the preferred choice for many employers. In contrast, urine tests are best for recent drug use detection but fall short when needing a broader timeframe.

Extended Detection Window

Extended Detection Window is a key advantage of hair follicle testing in Josephville, MO. Unlike other methods, hair testing can reveal drug use over up to 90 days, offering a thorough analysis of an individual's substance use history. Employers seeking long-term insight into an employee's habits favor this approach.

Employers benefit from the extended detection window of hair follicle tests. It provides a detailed record of potential substance use, far exceeding the brief snapshot offered by urine tests. This ensures that employers can monitor patterns of use and make more informed hiring or retention decisions.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method is a significant benefit of hair follicle testing in Josephville, MO. Hair tests greatly minimize the risk of sample adulteration, standing as a reliable and unquestionable tool against drug test cheating. The integrity of the test ensures accurate and honest results for employers and judicial systems.

Hair follicle tests are highly tamper-resistant, keeping the testing process secure. Unlike urine samples, which can be altered, hair samples offer a robust solution that maintains its integrity. This makes them an ideal choice for environments where cheating is a concern.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
