Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug tests in Rockleigh, New Jersey. If you require a hair drug or alcohol test, our specialty is hair testing with centers in every city across the Nation capable of conducting these tests. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the crown or body is required. Hair tests can screen for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other personalized testing options.

In the last few years, drug testing methods have increasingly favored hair follicle tests. Many employers, judicial systems, and Substance Abuse experts are opting for hair testing over traditional urine methods. Hair follicle tests are preferred by companies with zero-tolerance drug policies, judiciary bodies, and probationary conditions. The key advantage is a longer detection period of up to 90 days, with observed collections making it hard to manipulate. Yet, for detecting drug use within 5 days, urine tests remain more precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is recognized as a potent method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Through embedding biomarkers in the fibers of an emerging hair strand, hair delivers a prolonged history of alcohol and other substances. When sampled close to the scalp, hair can offer nearly a 3-month detection period for alcohol and drugs. Hair is easily collectible, relatively resistant to tampering, and straightforward to mail.

A primary sample of 1.5 inches comprising around 200 hair strands (approximately the size of a #2 pencil) situated nearest to the scalp can yield 100mg of hair, the optimal amount for screening and confirmation. For EtG, add-ons, and/or analyses exceeding 10 panels, a 150mg specimen is advocated. It's advisable to employ a jeweler's scale to weigh the specimen. In the absence of scalp hair, a corresponding quantity of body hair can be gathered. "Head hair" specifically refers to hair on the scalp, while "Body hair" denotes other types of hair (such as facial and axillary).

Process Overview

The laboratory processing of a drug test result encompasses four crucial steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning pertains to the initial processing of a sample within a lab’s framework. This step includes confirming that the sample was sealed and dispatched correctly, assigning an arbitrary LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any outstanding data entry not covered by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening involves a preliminary swift assessment for drug abuse. While Screening is a cost-effective approach to dismiss drug use in most samples, a positive screen must be corroborated to be admissible in legal proceedings. Any samples that test presumptively positive in Screening necessitate a subsequent confirmation.

Should a sample test presumptively positive during Screening, additional hair from the original specimen is prepared for Extraction. In this phase, drugs are extracted from hair at concentrations considerably lower than in other methods (such as urine or oral fluid), which accounts for the complexity of hair drug screening.

Confirmation for a positive screening outcome is executed via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positive samples undergo washing before confirmation as necessary. The comprehensive laboratory procedure from Accessioning to Confirmation is scrutinized under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and is compliant with ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection window: Hair drug tests can identify drug consumption for up to 90 days, contrasting with urine tests which have a more limited detection span.
  • Resistance to tampering: Cheating a hair drug test is notably tricky, lending to more dependable results.
  • Historical data provision: It outlines a drug usage pattern over time, not solely recent activity.

Limitations:

  • Unable to detect recent utilization: It generally requires 5-7 days for drugs to manifest in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests tend to be pricier than alternative drug testing techniques.
  • Result variability: Factors like hair color and individual hair growth rates can influence the concentration of drug metabolites in hair.

Note: Although often termed as "hair follicle tests", the examination targets the hair strand and does not involve the follicle beneath the scalp

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Rockleigh, NJ, hair follicle testing offers distinct advantages over traditional urine tests. One of the primary benefits is its superior detection accuracy. Hair tests deliver more reliable and conclusive results due to the extended time frame over which they can detect drug use.

The dependability of hair testing in identifying substance use surpasses conventional urine testing. This method aids in maintaining comprehensive accuracy and efficiency, essential in professional settings that demand rigorous screening protocols.

Extended Detection Window

Hair follicle testing in Rockleigh, NJ, boasts an extended detection range, capturing drug use over a lengthy period, often reaching up to 90 days. This extensive window provides employers a comprehensive insight into an individual’s drug use history.

Utilizing hair testing gives a complete narrative of an employee’s past substance intake, fostering more informed hiring decisions. The increased detection period surpasses many traditional tests, offering a broader view of behavioural patterns over time.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

The tamper-resistant nature of hair follicle testing in Rockleigh, NJ, is a critical factor in ensuring reliable results. It is significantly harder to adulterate a hair sample than a urine sample, thereby providing trustworthy outcomes.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
