Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Rhinecliff, New York. Specializing in hair testing, we cater to individuals needing a hair drug or alcohol test, with testing centers available in all cities nationwide. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the scalp or body is required, and hair testing can assess for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or be custom-tailored to meet specific needs.

Recently, the preference for drug testing methodologies has shifted towards hair follicle testing. Many entities, such as employers, judicial systems, and substance abuse experts, now opt for hair over urine tests. Hair follicle tests are advantageous for zero-tolerance employers, legal authorities, and those on probation due to their extended drug detection capability—up to 90 days—in an observed manner that's difficult to deceive. However, for drug use detection within the past 5 days, urine tests remain most precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is now recognized as an effective method for identifying alcohol and drug consumption. The hair retains a long-term record of substances by capturing biomarkers within the strands as it grows. When taken close to the scalp, hair can offer a detection window of up to around 3 months for alcohol and other substances. Collecting hair is straightforward, hard to tamper with, and simple to transport.

A 1.5-inch portion, around 200 hair strands (roughly pencil-thick), taken nearest to the scalp will yield 100mg of hair, which is optimal for analysis and confirmation. For EtG add-ons or tests exceeding 10 panels, a 150mg specimen is advised. Using a jeweler’s scale to weigh the specimen is recommended. Should scalp hair be unavailable, an equivalent amount of body hair can be used. "Head hair" refers solely to scalp hair, while "body hair" encompasses all other types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The process of obtaining a drug test result encompasses four key steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning involves entering a sample into the laboratory system for initial processing. This step ensures the sample was sealed and transported properly, assigns an arbitrary LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes any further data entry missing from an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening involves a preliminary check for drugs of abuse. While cost-effective for excluding drug use in most samples, only confirmed positive results are valid for legal proceedings. Presumptive positives in Screening need a secondary validation.

If a sample is presumptively positive in Screening, further hair is extracted from the original specimen for Extraction. This phase extracts drugs from hair at significantly lower concentrations than other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), making hair drug screening particularly challenging.

Confirmation of any positive screening is done using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. Any samples considered presumptive positive are washed before confirmation as required. The full process from Accessioning to Confirmation is examined under both CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and ISO / IEC 17025 standards accreditation.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests can identify drug use for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests with a shorter time frame.
  • Resistance to cheating: Cheating a hair drug test is exceedingly difficult, leading to more reliable results.
  • Projects historical usage: It reveals patterns of drug use over time, not just recent usage.

Limitations:

  • Inability to spot recent use: Drugs become detectable in hair after 5-7 days.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests are typically more costly than other testing techniques.
  • Result fluctuations: Elements like hair color and individual hair growth variations can influence drug metabolite levels.

Note: Commonly termed as "hair follicle tests," this test actually examines the hair strand rather than the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Hair follicle testing stands superior to traditional urine tests in Rhinecliff, NY, due to its accuracy and reliability. Unlike urine tests, hair analysis can detect a longer window of drug use, often up to 90 days. Extended Detection Window

One of the largest advantages of hair follicle testing in Rhinecliff, NY is its extended detection window. This testing technique can identify drug use for as long as 90 days prior to the test. Such a comprehensive detection period allows employers to gain a fuller understanding of the substance habits of employees, ensuring a safer and more informed workplace environment.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Hair follicle testing is a tamper-resistant method that significantly reduces sample adulteration risks in Rhinecliff, NY. Its formulated collection process makes it nearly impossible to manipulate without detection. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
