Accredited Drug Testing provides extensive hair follicle drug tests in Leesburg, Ohio. When requiring a hair drug or alcohol test, Accredited Drug Testing excels in hair analysis, with facilities in every city across the nation ready to administer such tests. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the head or body are necessary for testing. Hair tests can check for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other specialized options.

In the past few years, the approach to drug testing has increasingly included hair follicle drug assessments. Numerous employers, judicial systems, and substance abuse experts mandate this test over the traditional urine test. Hair follicle tests are favored by employers with zero-tolerance policies, courts, and those on probation due to their benefits, such as detecting substances up to 90 days. Although effective, urine tests remain more precise for detecting very recent use within 5 days.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis is acknowledged as a significant means for detecting drug and alcohol consumption. By encasing biomarkers in the filaments of the expanding hair strand, hair offers an extended history of substance usage. When procured near the scalp, hair can yield an approximately 3-month detection period for alcohol and drugs. It is straightforward to gather, somewhat hard to tamper with, and convenient to transport.

A 1.5-inch section with around 200 hair strands (about the thickness of a #2 pencil) closest to the scalp yields 100mg of hair, the optimal sample for evaluation and confirmation. For EtG, additional tests, and/or assessments exceeding 10 panels, 150mg of the sample is suggested. It is advised to measure the sample using a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair is not obtainable, a comparable volume of body hair may be gathered. When depicting head hair, we specifically mean scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other hair types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The primary four stages in processing a drug test result in the lab are Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning deals with the initial integration of a sample into a laboratory’s system. This step includes checking that the sample was properly sealed and shipped, allocating a unique LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and finishing any remaining data entry not supplied by an electronic custody system.

Screening constitutes an initial rapid assessment for drug abuse. Although Screening is an economically efficient method to exclude drug usage in most samples, any positive screening requires confirmation to uphold in legal situations. Samples that show preliminary positive results in Screening necessitate an additional confirmation.

Should a sample indicate a presumptive positive in Screening, further hair is extracted from the initial sample and prepped for Extraction. In this phase, drugs are isolated from hair at a considerably lower concentration compared to other approaches (e.g., urine or oral fluid), making hair drug analysis a more complex methodology.

Confirmation of any positive screening result is executed via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All samples showing presumptive positivity are cleansed prior to confirmation as required. The comprehensive lab process from Accessioning to Confirmation is examined under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and compliance to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug assessments can reveal drug use for as long as 90 days, unlike urine tests that offer a shorter detection timeframe.
  • Challenge to falsify: It is extremely challenging to deceive a hair drug test, leading to more reliable outcomes.
  • Supplies historical context: Provides a drug usage pattern over a duration, not solely recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Cannot identify recent usage: Detection of drugs in hair requires approximately 5-7 days.
  • Expense: Generally, hair drug assessments are more costly than other testing methods.
  • Result variability: Elements like hair color and personal hair growth differences can influence drug metabolite levels in hair.

Note: Although commonly termed "hair follicle tests", the analysis is performed on the hair strand and not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Leesburg, OH, witnesses the advantages of hair follicle testing over urine tests due to its superior accuracy and reliability. Unlike traditional methods, hair tests can identify substance use over an extended period, giving employers a more comprehensive report.

With the capacity for detecting drug use up to 90 days in the past, hair follicle testing surpasses urine tests, providing not only accuracy but also longevity in detection, which urine tests simply can't match.

Extended Detection Window

In Leesburg, OH, a significant appeal of hair follicle testing is its extended detection window, spanning up to 90 days back. This allows employers to gain a thorough insight into the substance use history of applicants or employees.

With hair follicle tests, employers access insights into long-term drug use, something other tests fail to provide, thus offering a detailed historical overview which is crucial for making informed employment decisions.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Hair follicle tests in Leesburg, OH, drastically lower the chances of tampering with samples, providing trustworthy and definitive outcomes. The method's resilience to adulteration ensures the reliability of test results.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
