Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Monfort Heights, Ohio. If you require a hair drug or alcohol test, our specialty lies in hair testing, with centers available nationwide, ready to conduct these tests. Generally, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the scalp or body is needed for testing. Hair tests can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, or be customized for other analyses.

Recently, the approach to drug testing has increasingly involved hair follicle drug tests. Numerous employers, judicial systems, and Substance Abuse professionals prefer hair drug tests over traditional urine tests. This method is favored by employers enforcing strict drug-free policies, legal entities, and probation cases. The main advantage of hair tests is a longer detection window of up to 90 days, which are overseen during collection and challenging to evade. Yet, urine tests remain the most precise for detecting drug use within the last 5 days.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis is now recognized as an effective means of detecting drug and alcohol usage. Hair captures a long-term record of these substances by embedding biomarkers within the growing hair's fibers. With hair collected near the scalp, it can indicate alcohol and drug presence for nearly a 3-month period. Collecting hair is straightforward, challenging to tamper with, and simple to send.

Using a 1.5-inch sample of approximately 200 hair strands (comparable to a #2 pencil size) closest to the scalp will provide 100mg, the optimal amount for both screening and verification. For EtG, add-ons, and/or tests exceeding 10 panels, 150mg of the sample is ideal. We advise using a jeweler’s scale for exact measurement. If scalp hair isn't accessible, a comparable quantity of body hair may be used. When mentioning head hair, it specifically means scalp hair only; body hair includes all other varieties (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory analysis of a drug test outcome encompasses four primary stages: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

During Accessioning, the sample undergoes initial processing into the lab’s system. This step ensures the sample's secure sealing and shipment, allocates a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes any unfinished data entry absent from an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening is a preliminary assessment for substance misuse. Though Screening offers a cost-efficient strategy to dismiss drug use in most cases, a positive finding must be verified for legal validity. Any sample flagged as presumptively positive in Screening requires additional confirmation.

Should a sample test positive in the Screening phase, additional hair from the original sample is readied for Extraction. Here, drugs are isolated from hair at concentrations lower than other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluids), underscoring the complexity of hair drug testing.

Confirmation of any positive result from Screening is achieved via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All samples presumptively positive are cleansed before confirmation, as necessary. The full laboratory sequence from Accessioning to Confirmation undergoes review according to both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extensive detection duration: Hair drug assessments can identify drug involvement up to 90 days, unlike urine assessments with shorter durations.
  • Challenge to falsify: It's notably hard to deceive a hair test, enhancing result precision.
  • Delivers past usage data: Can chart a history of drug use over duration, beyond just recent incidents.

Limitations:

  • Inability to detect recent involvement: Takes about 5-7 days for drugs to register in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug assessments typically cost more than alternate methods.
  • Result variability: Elements like hair color and individual hair growth differences can alter drug metabolite levels in hair.

Note: Although often labeled "hair follicle tests", the testing focuses on the hair shaft rather than the follicle beneath the skin.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why does hair follicle testing outperform urine testing in Monfort Heights, OH? Superior detection accuracy is a primary reason. The longer detection period provides a more reliable understanding of drug usage compared to urine tests.
Urine tests, while common, cannot match the comprehensive detection range of hair testing.

  • Hair testing is difficult to circumvent, unlike urine samples.
  • Longer detection window up to 90 days.

Employers seeking reliable drug screening outcomes often prefer hair tests, recognizing the advantages over traditional urine testing. Hair follicle tests offer more than just accuracy; they deliver insight into long-term substance use, ensuring organizations maintain integrity in their testing processes.

Extended Detection Window

Extended Detection Window is a significant advantage of hair follicle testing in Monfort Heights, OH. Capturing substance use up to 90 days offers employers a detailed understanding of an individual's drug history.
Unlike urine tests, which are limited to recent detection, hair tests provide a retrospective view, enhancing the reliability of screening processes.

Employers benefit from this thorough approach, allowing them to assess long-term substance use patterns. The comprehensive window ensures informed decisions are made regarding applicants or employees, supporting safer and more secure workplace environments.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Ensuring reliability and integrity, hair follicle testing in Monfort Heights, OH, is resistant to tampering. The process minimizes the ability to adulterate samples as hair samples are collected under stringent observation.
Compared to other methods, altering hair test outcomes is nearly impossible, providing confidence in results.

Employers favor this testing method for its reliability, giving them assurance in substance use assessments. The tamper-resistant nature of hair tests guarantees outcomes are both unquestionable and dependable, reinforcing trustworthiness in crucial testing circumstances.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
