Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle analysis for drugs and alcohol in Northwest Comanche, OK. Our expertise in hair testing is complemented by our extensive network of centers nationwide. Hair samples, ideally between 1.5 to 2 inches from the crown, are utilized, yielding insights into substances like drugs and alcohol/ETG, along with other tailored testing options.

Hair follicle drug tests have increasingly become the preferred method for detecting substance use. Employers, judicial systems, and substance abuse authorities now favor hair tests due to their longer detection windows compared to urine tests. This method's advantage lies in its ability to identify drug use up to 90 days back and its resistance to tampering, except when recent use within 5 days necessitates urine testing.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis is recognized as an effective method for identifying substance use. Hair captures a comprehensive history of alcohol and other substances by embedding biomarkers within the fibers of the developing hair shaft. When harvested near the scalp, this can offer a detection period of up to roughly three months for alcohol and other substances. Hair collection is straightforward, not easily tampered with, and convenient to transport.

A 1.5-inch portion consisting of roughly 200 hair strands (comparable to the width of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp will produce 100mg of hair, which is the ideal amount for screening and validation. For EtG, additional tests, and/or panels exceeding ten, it is advised to obtain 150mg of the sample. It is suggested to weigh the sample using a jeweler’s scale. Should scalp hair be unattainable, the same amount of body hair can be used instead. References to head hair pertain only to scalp hair, while body hair denotes all other hair varieties (including facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The primary stages in the lab processing of a drug test result encompass Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning entails the initial enrollment of a sample into a lab's process. This incorporates verifying that the sample was properly sealed and sent, assigning a unique LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and finalizing any supplementary data input not provided by an electronic custody system.

Screening performs a preliminary assessment for substance abuse. Though Screening is a budget-friendly method to dismiss drug involvement in most samples, a positive screen needs validation for court acceptability. Samples marked presumptively positive during Screening need additional confirmation.

If a sample is marked presumptively positive at the Screening phase, additional hair is extracted from the primary sample and prepped for Extraction. During this phase, substances are retrieved from hair at a significantly lower concentration compared to other techniques (e.g., urine or oral fluids), which makes hair drug screening a more challenging technique.

Any positive screen result is confirmed using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. Every presumptive positive sample is washed before they are confirmed if necessary. Each step from Accessioning to Confirmation is undertaken in line with both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair criteria and the ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection span: Hair drug tests can track substance usage for up to 90 days, whereas urine tests provide a shorter span.
  • Hard to trick: It is exceedingly hard to deceive a hair drug test, enhancing result precision.
  • Offers historical evidence: It showcases drug usage patterns over time, not just recent activity.

Limitations:

  • Does not detect recent consumption: It usually takes 5-7 days for substances to be traced in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug examinations typically incur higher costs compared to other testing methods.
  • Result variability: Elements like hair color and personal differences in hair growth can influence the levels of drug metabolites in the hair.

Note: While commonly known as "hair follicle tests", the analysis targets the hair strand and excludes the hair follicle beneath the scalp

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Northwest Comanche, OK, the advantages of hair testing outshine traditional urine tests. Hair tests detect drug use over a far extended timeframe, unlike the short window for urine. This ensures a more accurate reflection of an individual's substance history. Extended Detection Window

Hair testing stands out for its extended detection window, crucial in Northwest Comanche, OK. Able to identify drug use up to 90 days back, it offers employers a thorough insight into an individual’s substance habits. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
