Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug screenings in Park Hill, Oklahoma. Whether you’re requiring a drug or alcohol analysis through hair, Accredited Drug Testing excels in this arena, with testing facilities across all U.S. cities qualifying to conduct hair analyses. Generally, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the head or body is needed. Our analyses can test for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other tailored options.

In recent times, hair follicle drug tests have increasingly supplemented traditional methods. Entities like employers, courts, and Substance Abuse experts are favoring them over urine tests. Employers maintaining zero-tolerance policies, judicial systems, and probation services often employ hair tests. Notably, their detection window extends up to 90 days and is nearly fraud-proof due to their supervised nature, unlike urine tests which more reliably trace drugs within the last 5 days.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis is acknowledged as a compelling method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair holds a long-term record of alcohol and substances by entrapping biomarkers within the fibers of a maturing hair strand. If gathered close to the scalp, hair can offer an approximately 3-month timeframe for detecting alcohol and substances. The collection process for hair is straightforward, challenging to tamper with, and convenient to transport.

A 1.5-inch lock of roughly 200 hair strands (similar to the girth of a #2 pencil) closest to the scalp yields 100mg of hair, the optimal amount for both initial assessment and follow-up testing. For EtG, additional elements, and/or screenings that exceed 10 panels, a 150mg sample is advocated. Using a jeweler’s scale is advisable for weighing the sample. Should scalp hair be unobtainable, an equivalent volume of body hair can be used. When mentioning head hair, it specifically means scalp hair alone. Body hair encompasses all other forms (facial, axillary, and so on).

Process Overview

There are four fundamental stages in the lab processing of a drug test result: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning is the initial phase of integrating a sample into a laboratory’s system. This step ensures the sample is properly sealed and transported, assigns a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes any additional data entry absent in an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening performs an initial rapid assessment for substances of abuse. While Screening is an economically advantageous means to dismiss drug use in most samples, confirmation is necessary for a positive screen to hold up in judicial proceedings. Presumptively positive results from Screening necessitate a secondary confirmation.

In cases of presumptive positive results during the Screening phase, more hair is extracted from the initial sample for further Extraction. During this phase, substances are extracted from hair at much lower concentrations compared to other techniques (such as urine or oral fluid), which renders hair drug analysis one of the most complex methodologies.

Validation of any positive screening outcome is carried out using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. Presumptively positive samples undergo washing before confirmation as required. The entire lab sequence from Accessioning to Confirmation is carried out under both the scrutiny of the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and adherence to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Long-term detection capability: Hair testing can detect drugs up to 90 days, unlike urine testing, which has a limited detection window.
  • Impediment to falsification: Cheating a hair drug test is extremely difficult, enhancing result precision.
  • Offers historical insight: It reveals drug use trends over time, not just recent usage.

Limitations:

  • Ineffectiveness in detecting recent usage: Detectability of drugs in hair takes about 5-7 days.
  • Expense: Generally, hair drug tests incur higher costs than alternative drug testing approaches.
  • Result variability: Factors such as hair color and individual hair growth rates can influence drug metabolite concentration in hair.

Note: Despite being commonly termed "hair follicle tests," the actual analysis is performed on the hair strand, excluding the hair follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing
In Park Hill, OK, choosing hair follicle tests over traditional urine tests can significantly impact drug detection accuracy and reliability. Unlike urine tests, hair analyses offer an extended detection period of up to 90 days, far surpassing urine's limited timeframe. This comprehensive detection timeframe ensures a better assessment of an individual’s substance use over time, providing a superior solution.

Hair tests are resistant to tampering and provide more consistent results than urine tests, which can be manipulated easily. For Park Hill employers and organizations, this means added security and confidence in screening employees and new hires. Improved accuracy reduces retests and inconclusive results, fostering a more secure testing environment compared to conventional approaches.

Extended Detection Window

Extended Detection Window

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
