Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug testing in Blue Mound, Texas. Whether your need is for a hair drug or alcohol test, our expertise in hair testing is unmatched, with facilities available nationwide to conduct these tests. It generally requires 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the crown or body. Our hair tests provide analysis for drugs, alcohol/ETG, and other personalized testing options.

In recent years, hair follicle drug tests have increasingly become a prevalent method for conducting drug tests. Many employers, judicial systems, and substance abuse professionals prefer them over standard urine tests. Companies with zero-tolerance drug policies, as well as courts and probation participants, utilize these tests. Their key advantage is a detection window lasting up to 90 days, with a supervised collection process that's nearly impossible to manipulate. However, urine tests remain most accurate for identifying recent drug use within the past five days.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is recognized as an effective method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair offers a prolonged history of substance use by embedding biomarkers within the fibers of the hair as it grows. When taken close to the scalp, hair can reveal drug and alcohol use within roughly a 3-month timeframe. It is easy to collect hair, hard to tamper with, and convenient to transport.

A 1.5-inch segment of nearly 200 hair strands (similar in size to a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp provides 100mg of hair, which is the optimal quantity for inspection and validation. For EtG, additional tests, and/or examinations beyond 10 panels, a 150mg sample is advisable. Using a jeweler’s scale, we suggest measuring the specimen. If scalp hair isn’t present, a comparable amount of body hair can be used. The term "head hair" refers only to scalp hair, while "body hair" includes all other hair varieties (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The primary phases in the laboratory workflow for drug test results encompass Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning entails the preliminary handling of a sample within a lab’s framework. This comprises checking that the sample is intact and correctly delivered, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any further data input not offered by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening consists of a rapid initial assessment for substance abuse. Although Screening is a budget-friendly technique to exclude drug use in most samples, a positive indication necessitates confirmation for legal validity. Samples testing presumptively positive in Screening require an additional verification process.

If a sample signals presumptive positivity during Screening, more hair is extracted from the original sample and readied for Extraction. In this phase, substances are extracted from hair at significantly lower concentrations compared to other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), which renders hair drug screening as one of the most complex methodologies to conduct.

Verification of any positive Screening outcome is performed using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS or LC/MS/MS. All samples indicating a presumptive positive are cleansed before confirmation as needed. The entire laboratory sequence from Accessioning to Confirmation is audited under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and accredited to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection duration: Hair drug assessments can disclose drug use for up to 90 days, whereas urine assessments have a briefer detection span.
  • Hard to bypass: Cheating a hair drug examination is highly challenging, ensuring more reliable results.
  • Historical usage data: It indicates a pattern of drug consumption over time, rather than just recent usage.

Limitations:

  • Inability to identify recent use: It takes around 5-7 days for drugs to be noticeable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug evaluations are typically pricier than other drug testing techniques.
  • Result variations: Elements like hair color and personal differences in hair growth can influence drug metabolite concentrations in hair.

Note: Although commonly referred to as "hair follicle tests", the assessment itself examines the hair strand and not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Hair follicle testing in Blue Mound, TX, surpasses traditional urine tests due to its exceptional accuracy and reliability. While urine testing can only detect recent usage, hair tests pinpoint drug use over longer periods, reducing false negatives and providing a clearer picture.

The benefits of hair testing include its extended detection window, making it superior to urine tests. In terms of trustworthiness, hair testing's method makes it difficult to tamper with, unlike urine samples which are easier to adulterate.

Extended Detection Window

One of the most significant advantages of hair follicle testing in Blue Mound, TX, is its ability to track substance use over a 90-day span. This extended detection period provides a comprehensive insight into a person's drug history.

In contrast to urine tests that detect recent usage, hair tests offer an extensive timeline of drug use, giving employers in Blue Mound a complete picture of an individual's substance habits.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Hair follicle testing in Blue Mound, TX, dramatically reduces the risk of sample tampering. Its method ensures confidence in the integrity of the results, as manipulating a hair sample is notably more challenging than a urine sample.

This tamper-resistant nature of hair tests provides employers with unquestionable accuracy, enhancing their trustworthiness over other testing methods. It's a valuable tool in ensuring test results are clean and credible.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
