Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug screenings in Bridge City, Texas. For your drug or alcohol testing needs, our expertise in hair testing stands unrivaled, with centers in all Nationwide cities ready to conduct these tests. Typically, a hair length of 1.5 to 2 inches is required, although body hair may suffice. Our tests can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, or can be tailored for other substances.

Hair follicle drug testing has increasingly become the preferred method in recent times. Employers, courts, and Substance Abuse experts now seek hair drug tests over conventional urine ones. Organizations with zero-tolerance policies, judicial systems, and probation individuals benefit from hair tests. Their key advantage is a detection period of up to 90 days, with evidence obtained through supervised collection, making tampering nearly impossible, but for recent usage within 5 days, urine tests prove more accurate.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis is recognized as an effective method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair retains a long-term record of alcohol and drug usage by locking biomarkers within the fibers of the growing strand. When taken near the scalp, hair can offer a detection window of up to roughly three months for alcohol and drug use. Hair is easy to collect, relatively hard to tamper with, and simple to transport.

A section of 1.5 inches containing approximately 200 strands (around the thickness of a #2 pencil) near the scalp yields 100mg of hair, which is the ideal quantity for screening and validation. For EtG, additions, and/or tests exceeding 10 panels, a collection of 150mg of the sample is suggested. We advise using a jeweler’s scale for weighing the sample. If scalp hair can't be collected, a similar portion of body hair can be used. When we mention head hair, it refers specifically to scalp hair. Body hair pertains to all other types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The four primary stages in laboratory processing of a drug test result are Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning starts with the initial entry of a sample into a lab’s system. This entails confirming the correct sealing and shipping of the sample, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any further data entry missing from the electronic chain of custody system.

Screening acts as a swift preliminary check for drugs of misuse. While it’s a cost-effective measure to rule out drug usage in most samples, a screen yielding positive needs confirmation for court admissibility. Any samples that are tentatively positive during Screening require secondary verification.

Should a sample be tentatively positive in Screening, extra hair is extracted from the primary sample for preparation in Extraction. During this phase, drugs are extracted from the hair at significantly lower concentrations compared to other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), illustrating why hair drug screening is the most challenging methodology.

Confirmation of a positive screening result is executed using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All tentative positive samples are cleansed before confirmation, if necessary. The complete laboratory procedure from Accessioning to Confirmation is overseen under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair categorization and ISO / IEC 17025 standards accreditation.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection timeframe: Hair drug assessments can unveil drug consumption for up to ninety days, conflicting with the shorter detection range of urine tests.
  • Resistant to tampering: Cheating a hair drug test is extremely challenging, enhancing the accuracy of the results.
  • Historical usage data: Offers a trend of drug use over time, not limited to immediate consumption.

Limitations:

  • Unable to detect recent consumption: Drugs take around 5-7 days to become identifiable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug analyses generally cost more compared to other testing techniques.
  • Result variability: Elements like hair color and personal differences in hair growth may impact the level of drug metabolites in hair.

Note: Although commonly termed "hair follicle tests", the analysis is conducted on the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why does hair follicle testing outshine urine testing in Bridge City, TX?

  • Longer detection window: Hair tests can detect drugs up to 90 days, unlike the shorter span of urine tests.
  • Unmatched accuracy: Hair testing offers superior accuracy, minimizing the chances of false negatives.
  • Reliability: It reduces attempts of test circumvention, enhancing trust in results.

Extended Detection Window

Bridge City, TX, employers benefit from hair follicle testing due to its wide detection window, extending up to 90 days. This provides a comprehensive analysis of an individual's substance use history, far surpassing the limitations of other testing methods. Such extensive insight assists in making informed hiring and employment decisions, reflecting a clear view of an employee’s past behavior.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Hair follicle tests in Bridge City, TX, dramatically mitigate the risk of sample tampering. Unlike other testing methods, altering a hair sample is extremely challenging. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
