Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug evaluations in Hickory Creek, Texas. Specializing in both hair drug and alcohol testing, we feature testing locations across all cities in the country to perform these assessments. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from your head or body is required. Hair analysis can identify drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other tailored testing services.

Recently, hair follicle drug testing has become more prevalent in drug screening methods. This test is favored by employers, courts, and substance abuse professionals over standard urine tests due to its longer detection capability, lasting up to 90 days. It's crucial for zero-tolerance policies and probation monitoring. Collection is tightly supervised, making it nearly tamper-proof. For recent drug use within 5 days, urine tests remain most effective.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis is now regarded as a significant method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair captures a prolonged timeline of alcohol and drug use by embedding biomarkers within the fibers of the growing hair strands. When gathered near the scalp, hair can reveal up to about a 90-day window for detecting alcohol and various drugs. Hair is easy to collect, relatively challenging to alter, and straightforward to transport.

A 1.5-inch segment consisting of roughly 200 hair strands (comparable in size to a #2 pencil) near the scalp yields 100mg of hair, which is the optimal amount for analysis and verification. For EtG, additional tests, or assessments beyond 10 panels, 150mg of the sample is suggested. We advise measuring the sample with a jeweler’s scale. If head hair isn't available, a corresponding quantity of body hair may be obtained. When mentioning head hair, it refers exclusively to scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The four primary phases in a laboratory’s processing of a drug test outcome are Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning includes the preliminary handling of a sample into a laboratory’s system. This phase ensures that the sample was properly sealed and transported, assigns a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and concludes any additional data entry not covered by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening involves a preliminary swift examination for drugs of abuse. Although Screening is an economical method to exclude drug use in most samples, a positive screen requires confirmation for court acceptability. Samples that are suspected positive during Screening must undergo additional confirmation.

Should a sample appear positive during the Screening phase, more hair is taken from the initial batch and readied for Extraction. At this phase, drugs are withdrawn from hair at concentrations much lower compared to other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), thus making hair drug screening the most complex method to execute.

Confirmation of any positive screening outcome is conducted via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All samples marked as presumptive positive undergo washing before confirmation as necessary. The complete process from Accessioning to Confirmation is examined under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and in compliance with ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Benefits of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests can reveal drug consumption for up to 90 days, versus urine tests which detect usage for a shorter duration.
  • Difficult to manipulate: Cheating on a hair drug test is nearly impossible, thus ensuring more reliable results.
  • Historical insight: It offers a timeline of drug use over an extended period, not merely recent use.

Drawbacks:

  • Inability to detect recent intake: Detection of drugs takes about 5-7 days post-consumption.
  • Expense: Hair drug testing generally incurs higher costs than other drug testing techniques.
  • Result inconsistencies: Variables like hair color and personal differences in hair growth can influence the concentration of drug metabolites in hair.

Note: Although commonly termed "hair follicle tests", the analysis focuses on the hair strand rather than the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Hair follicle testing in Hickory Creek, TX, reigns supreme over urine testing due to its superior detection sensitivity and reliability. Unlike urine tests, hair analysis provides a broader window of substance history, capturing use that traditional methods might miss. With hair testing, you’re securing a more clear-eyed picture of drug activity.

Urine tests pale in comparison to the extensive detection capabilities of hair tests. The reliability and accuracy of hair testing make them the preferred choice for employers who demand stringent drug-free environments. Such tests uncover what urine tests could potentially overlook, offering a robust defense against impaired work performance.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
