Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Hornsby Bend, Texas. If you require a hair drug or alcohol screening, we specialize in hair testing with centers across all cities Nationwide that facilitate hair tests. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the crown of the head or body is needed. Hair tests are capable of detecting drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other bespoke hair tests.

In recent times, the preference for drug testing has increasingly leaned towards hair follicle drug testing. Many employers, judicial bodies, and Substance Abuse professionals demand a hair drug test rather than the traditional urine test. This method is favored by employers with strict no-drug policies, legal authorities, and individuals on probation. A major advantage of hair follicle tests is their extended detection window for drug use, generally up to 90 days, within a supervised collection process that's almost unfeasible to tamper with. Nevertheless, for tracing drug use within the recent 5 days, urine tests remain the most precise.

What it is, How it works

Utilizing hair testing has emerged as an effective method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair offers a prolonged detection history of alcohol and drugs by encapsulating biomarkers within the hair strand as it grows. When sourced near the scalp, hair can furnish up to a roughly 3-month timeframe for detecting alcohol and other substances. The collection of hair is straightforward, relatively challenging to tamper with, and uncomplicated to transport.

A sample measuring 1.5 inches with approximately 200 hair strands (akin to the size of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp will yield 100mg of hair—ideal for screening and confirmation. For EtG, additional requests, and/or more than 10-panel tests, a specimen quantity of 150mg is advised. Measuring the specimen on a jeweler’s scale is recommended. If scalp hair is not accessible, a comparable amount of body hair may be gathered. References to head hair pertain solely to scalp hair. Body hair encompasses other types of hair (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The primary four phases in the lab processing of a drug test result include Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

During Accessioning, the sample undergoes initial processing into the lab's system. This involves verifying that the sample is properly sealed and shipped, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any leftover data entry absent from the electronic chain of custody system.

Screening involves a preliminary rapid assessment for drugs of abuse. Although Screening is a cost-efficient method to exclude drug use in most samples, a positive screening result needs confirmation to be court admissible. Samples presumptively positive in Screening require further confirmation.

If a sample tests presumptively positive in the Screening phase, additional hair is extracted from the original specimen and prepared for Extraction. In this phase, drugs are isolated from hair at significantly reduced concentrations than other methodologies (for example, urine or oral fluid), which makes hair drug screening the most complex method to execute.

Any positive screening results undergo Confirmation through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptively positive samples are cleansed before confirmation as necessary. The entire lab process from Accessioning to Confirmation is evaluated under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair classification and ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection timeframe: Hair drug tests can trace drug use for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests that have a shorter timeline.
  • Minimal likelihood of cheating: It's particularly hard to cheat a hair drug test, enhancing the accuracy of results.
  • Provides historical perspective: It can outline a pattern of drug consumption over time, not merely recent usage.

Limitations:

  • Unable to detect recent consumption: It requires around 5-7 days for drugs to become perceivable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests generally incur higher costs than alternate drug testing methods.
  • Result variability: Factors like hair color and individual hair growth differences can influence drug metabolite concentration in hair.

Note: Frequently referred to as "hair follicle tests", the analysis focuses on the hair strand rather than the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why Opt for Hair Follicle Over Urine Testing in Hornsby Bend, TX? Hair follicle testing offers superior benefits compared to traditional urine tests. Unlike urine tests that detect only recent drug use, hair tests provide insight into an individual's substance use over a prolonged period, enhancing accuracy and reliability. This makes them invaluable for employers who prioritize comprehensive detection, aligning with zero-tolerance policies.

Extended Detection Window

Extended Detection Capabilities in Hornsby Bend, TX An outstanding advantage of hair follicle testing is its ability to detect drug use for up to 90 days. This extensive detection window provides a thorough overview of an individual's substance use history, offering employers valuable insights into prospective or current employees. Such a broad timeframe aids in informed decision-making regarding hiring and employment policies.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Minimizing Tampering Risks with Hair Follicle Tests in Hornsby Bend, TX Hair follicle testing stands out for its resistance to adulteration. Unlike urine tests, which can be tampered with, hair samples are secure and tamper-resistant, ensuring credible results. This reliability is crucial for situations demanding verifiable drug test results, such as court orders or workplace policies, upholding integrity and validity.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
