Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug screening services in Northeast Rockwall, TX. Whether you require testing for drugs or alcohol, our expertise in hair analysis ensures reliable results, with facilities located nationwide. Hair samples must be at least 1.5 to 2 inches long. Our tests can identify drugs, alcohol/ETG, or can be tailored for other specific hair analyses.

Recently, the preferred method for drug screening has increasingly involved hair follicle tests. Many employers, judicial systems, and substance abuse counselors opt for hair tests over urine tests. These tests benefit organizations with zero-tolerance drug policies, judicial systems, and individuals under supervision, thanks to their lengthy detection period of up to 90 days. While hair tests offer numerous advantages, urine tests remain preferred for identifying drug use within the past 5 days.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is regarded as a robust method for identifying drug and alcohol usage. Hair provides a comprehensive history of alcohol and drugs by trapping biomarkers within the fibers of the growing hair. When gathered near the scalp, hair can offer up to an estimated 3-month detection timeframe for alcohol and drugs. Hair collection is straightforward, relatively hard to tamper with, and convenient to transport.

A 1.5-inch sample of about 200 hairs (similar to a #2 pencil in size) closest to the scalp will yield 100mg, an ideal sample for both screening and confirmation. For EtG, add-ons, and/or tests over 10 panels, a 150mg specimen is advised. It's suggested to weigh the sample using a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair is absent, a comparable volume of body hair may be used. Head hair refers to scalp hair alone. Body hair covers all other types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The key steps in processing a drug test in the lab are Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning includes the primary processing of a sample into the lab’s system, ensuring the sample was sealed and delivered correctly, assigning it a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any missing data not included by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening is a preliminary examination for drugs of abuse. While economical for ruling out drug use in most samples, positive screens must be confirmed for court acceptance. Any samples deemed presumptively positive during Screening necessitate further confirmation.

If a sample shows a presumptive positive in Screening, additional hair is extracted from the original sample and readied for Extraction. During this phase, drugs are extracted from hair at a significantly lower concentration than other methods (such as urine or oral fluid), making hair drug screening the most challenging method.

Confirmation of any positive screen is conducted using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All positive samples are washed before confirmation if required. The entire process from Accessioning to Confirmation is evaluated under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests can identify drug use for up to 90 days, whereas urine tests feature a shorter period.
  • Hard to manipulate: Cheating a hair drug test is quite tough, hence the results are more reliable.
  • Offers historical insight: Provides an overview of drug use patterns over time, rather than just recent intake.

Limitations:

  • Cannot spot recent intake: It requires about 5-7 days for drugs to become detectable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair tests generally cost more than other drug testing methods.
  • Result variations: Parameters like hair color and personal hair growth variances can influence drug metabolite levels in hair.

Note: Although referred to as "hair follicle tests", the actual analysis is performed on the hair strand, not on the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Advantages of Hair Testing over Urine Testing: In Northeast Rockwall, TX, hair analysis clearly surpasses urine testing, providing greater detection accuracy and reliability. Its ability to detect drug use over extended periods offers more comprehensive insights, making it preferable to traditional urine methods for many organizations.

Compared to urine tests, hair testing offers longer detection windows, highlighting past substance use and reflecting a more complete history. Employers and judicial bodies recognize this advantage, favoring its inclusion in screening programs.

Extended Detection Window

Extended Detection Window: Hair follicle testing in Northeast Rockwall, TX, provides up to a 90-day detection window, making it invaluable for employers aiming for a broader snapshot of an individual’s drug use history. This extended window reveals a more complete record of behavior.

For companies seeking detailed profiles on potential or current employees, hair testing offers an unmatched perspective, revealing patterns of use not captured by shorter-term tests. This robust insight aids informed decision-making in the hiring process.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Tamper-Resistant Method: Hair follicle testing in Northeast Rockwall, TX, significantly minimizes the risk of sample tampering, offering employers and organizations an undeniably reliable testing method. The nature of hair testing makes it difficult to adulterate, ensuring genuine results.

By thwarting common cheating tactics, businesses and legal systems can rely on hair testing to deliver unassailable validity and true insight into substance use, enhancing the credibility of their screening processes.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
