Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug assessments in Southside Place, Texas. If you are seeking a hair-based drug or alcohol analysis, our expertise in hair testing is unmatched, with facilities in every city across the nation ready to conduct these tests. Typically, hair from the crown of one's head measuring 1.5 to 2 inches, or body hair, may be used. This method can screen for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other tailored testing needs.

Lately, drug testing methods increasingly favor hair follicle tests. Employers, judicial systems, and Substance Abuse experts often select hair assessments over conventional urine testing. Such tests are vital for entities enforcing strict anti-drug regulations, court orders, or probation mandates. Their key advantage lies in a prolonged detection window, often spanning 90 days, ensuring an observed collection process, and offering robust resistance to tampering. Yet, urine tests retain accuracy for recent drug use within the past five days.

What it is, How it works

The assessment of hair has emerged as an effective approach for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair offers a prolonged timeline for alcohol and drug detection by embedding biomarkers within the strands of the growing hair. When clipped close to the scalp, hair can reveal a drug and alcohol detection window of up to about 3 months. The collection process for hair is straightforward, tampering is somewhat challenging, and shipping is uncomplicated.

A sample measuring 1.5 inches, approximately 200 strands (similar in size to a #2 pencil), taken closest to the scalp will provide 100mg of hair, which is the optimal sample for analysis and confirmation. For EtG tests, additional tests, and/or when exceeding 10 panels, a specimen weighing 150mg is advisable. It is advised to measure the specimen using a jeweler’s scale. In the absence of scalp hair, the same amount of body hair can be collected. The term head hair specifically denotes scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other types of hair (e.g., facial, axillary).

Process Overview

The laboratory processing of a drug test result comprises four primary stages: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning pertains to the initial handling of a sample within a lab’s system. This step ensures the sample is correctly sealed and shipped, assigns a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes any additional data entry absent from an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening provides an initial rapid examination for the presence of drugs. Although Screening is an economical method to identify the absence of drug use in most samples, positive screens necessitate confirmation for court admissibility. Any samples that are presumptively positive in Screening demand a secondary confirmation.

If a sample yields a presumptive positive during Screening, additional hair is extracted from the original specimen in preparation for Extraction. In this phase, drugs are isolated from hair at far lower concentrations compared to alternative methodologies (such as urine or oral fluid), which is why hair drug screening is the most demanding methodology to execute.

For positive Screening results, Confirmation is performed using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All samples that are presumptive positive undergo washing prior to confirmation when necessary. The complete laboratory procedure, from Accessioning to Confirmation, undergoes review under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation as well as the ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Prolonged detection period: Hair drug tests can identify drug usage for as long as 90 days, unlike urine tests which have a shorter detection period.
  • High resistance to manipulation: Cheating a hair drug test is notably challenging, enhancing the accuracy of the results.
  • Offers chronological data: It delivers an overview of drug usage patterns over time as opposed to recent consumption alone.

Limitations:

  • Cannot detect recent usage: Approximately 5-7 days are required for drugs to become detectable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests are generally costlier compared to other drug testing techniques.
  • Result variations: Various factors such as hair color and personal hair growth differences can influence the concentration of drug metabolites within hair.

Note: Despite being commonly termed as "hair follicle tests", this test examines the hair strand rather than the hair follicle below the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why Hair Follicle Testing Surpasses Urine Testing in Southside Place, TX

Extended Detection Window

In Southside Place, TX, hair follicle testing provides an impressive detection window, reaching up to 90 days. This extensive period allows employers to observe not only recent substance use but also patterns that may suggest long-term habits. By analyzing this timeline, businesses can make informed decisions concerning applicants and current employees, ensuring a safer and more responsible workplace.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Hair follicle tests notably diminish the possibility of sample manipulation in Southside Place, TX. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
