Accredited Drug Testing provides thorough hair follicle drug testing services in Rhine, Wisconsin. For those needing a drug or alcohol assessment through hair analysis, Accredited Drug Testing excels in this type of test. Our centers are available across every city Nationwide to carry out hair tests. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the crown or body is required. These tests can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, and offer customized analysis.

Recently, the preference for drug testing has increasingly involved hair follicle analysis. Numerous employers, courts, and substance abuse experts now favor hair drug tests over the traditional urine tests. These tests are chosen by employers with strict no-drug policies, judicial systems, and probationers. Hair tests offer the advantage of a longer detection span for drug use, up to 90 days, with observed sample collection making it difficult to alter. Nonetheless, for detecting recent drug use within the last 5 days, urine tests remain the gold standard.

What it is, How it works

Utilizing hair testing is recognized as an effective method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair provides an extended overview of alcohol and other substances due to biomarkers being encased within the hair strand as it grows. When taken near the scalp, hair offers up to a roughly 90-day detection period for identifying substances. Hair collection is straightforward, tough to tamper with, and convenient to transport.

A 1.5-inch section comprising approximately 200 hair strands (equivalent to a #2 pencil) closest to the scalp yields 100mg, which is the optimal amount for analysis and verification. For EtG and extended panels beyond 10, a sample weighing 150mg is advised. We suggest measuring the hair sample using a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair is inaccessible, an equivalent section of body hair can be obtained. When we mention head hair, it pertains specifically to scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other types of hair (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory's processing of a drug test result comprises four key steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning includes the first step of introducing a sample into a lab’s process. This phase ensures the sample's proper sealing and shipping, assigns it a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes any missing data entry from a digital chain of custody.

Screening involves an expedited preliminary examination for substance misuse. While Screening is economical in ruling out drug consumption for most samples, a screened positive case must be verified for court usability. Any samples that test provisional positive in Screening require further confirmation.

For samples presumed positive in Screening, additional hair is taken from the original sample for Extraction. In this step, drugs are extracted from hair at notably lower concentrations than seen in other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), which is why hair drug testing is exceptionally challenging.

Confirming any positive screen is performed using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All samples with a presumption of positivity are cleaned before final confirmation as required. The laboratory process from Accessioning to Confirmation is scrutinized under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair classification and the ISO / IEC 17025 standard accreditation.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection window: Hair drug assessments can identify substance usage for up to 90 days, compared to the shorter detection in urine tests.
  • Difficult to manipulate: Cheating on a hair drug test is significantly harder, enhancing result accuracy.
  • Retrospective data: It provides a history of substance use over a timeline, rather than just recent instances.

Limitations:

  • Incapable of detecting recent consumption: Drugs require around 5-7 days to become detectable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests are typically pricier than alternative drug testing techniques.
  • Result variations: Variability factors like hair color and individual hair growth differences can influence drug metabolite concentrations in hair.

Note: Even though often called "hair follicle tests", the analysis targets the hair strand, not the follicle under the skin.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

When comparing hair follicle testing with urine tests, hair analysis in Rhine, WI clearly emerges as superior. The detection accuracy of hair testing surpasses that of traditional urine tests. Enhanced Detection Capacity: Hair samples maintain evidence of drug use over a much longer duration than urine, offering a more comprehensive insight into an individual's habits.

Extended Detection Window

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
