Frequently Asked Questions

What is Certified Drug Testing Collector Training?

Certified Drug Testing Collector Training is a structured program that teaches how to properly collect urine specimens for drug testing, document chain of custody, complete custody and control forms, and follow federal and industry procedures. It prepares you to act as a professional collector for employment, compliance, and post-accident testing situations.

Who should take this collector training?

This training is intended for new and current specimen collectors, on-site/mobile testing technicians, HR and safety/compliance staff who manage workplace testing programs, and those supporting DOT and other regulated testing environments. It is also valuable for third-party program administrators who coordinate testing for multiple employers.

What does the training cover?

Topics include collection site preparation, donor check-in and ID verification, proper urine specimen collection, sealing and packaging, completing the custody and control form, maintaining chain of custody, following regulatory procedures, handling problem or refusal situations, and performing mock collections to demonstrate competency.

Why is chain of custody so important?

Accurate chain of custody protects the integrity of the specimen and makes the result defensible. If the paperwork or handling is done incorrectly, the result can be challenged or thrown out. Proper training ensures the collector documents every handoff of the specimen and follows approved procedures from start to finish.

Will I learn how to handle post-accident and reasonable suspicion collections?

Yes. Collectors are trained on urgent or high-pressure collections such as post-accident and reasonable suspicion situations. This includes how to respond quickly, maintain professionalism, and still follow required procedures so the employer can document compliance.

Is there a hands-on or practical component?

Yes. The training includes mock collections or observed practice, which helps confirm that the trainee can perform the collection procedure correctly, seal and document the specimen, and complete all required paperwork without fatal errors.

Does this training help with DOT and workplace compliance?

Yes. Collectors are instructed in procedures that align with regulated testing standards, including how to complete secure, compliant collections for safety-sensitive positions. Employers rely on properly trained collectors to avoid violations and protect the validity of test results.

Will I receive proof of completion or certification?

Yes. Participants who successfully complete the course and required mock demonstrations receive documentation of completion/certification. This recognition can be used to show employers and clients that you are trained in proper specimen collection procedures.

This is by far the easiest way to get my lab work ordered and paid for. The phone calls are short and to the point. They don’t try to push extra sales on you and when I walk in to the clinic I simply show my donor pass and with in a matter of minutes I’m done. I will continue to use ADT in the future.
