In Trinity, Alabama, Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services. Whether you're in need of a hair drug or alcohol test, we excel in this area and have numerous testing facilities nationwide capable of conducting these tests. Generally, you'll need 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from your head or body. Our hair tests can assess the presence of drugs, alcohol/ETG, or be tailored to suit specific testing needs.

Lately, the use of hair follicle drug tests has become more prevalent in the field of drug testing. Various employers, courts, and substance abuse professionals are opting for hair drug tests over traditional urine tests. Employers with strict no-drug policies, judicial systems, and probation officers favor hair follicle tests due to their extended drug detection period, which can be up to 90 days. Additionally, the collection is observed directly, making the test extremely hard to tamper with. Note that for drugs used in the last 5 days, urine tests still offer better accuracy.

What it is, How it works

Hair assessments have evolved into a significant measure for recognizing drug and alcohol consumption. The hair encapsulates a prolonged timeline of alcohol and narcotics by embedding biomarkers within the fibers of the growing hair strand. When gathered near the scalp, hair can reveal up to roughly a 3-month detection period for alcohol and drugs. Hair is straightforward to collect, moderately challenging to tamper with, and effortless to transport.

A 1.5-inch section of roughly 200 strands of hair (comparable to the girth of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp yields 100mg of hair, which is the exemplary sample for analysis and confirmation. For EtG, supplementary, and/or assessments exceeding 10 panels, 150mg of the sample is advocated. We suggest measuring the sample on a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair is inaccessible, an equivalent measure of body hair may be amassed. When mentioned as head hair, we are addressing scalp hair exclusively. Body hair signifies all other hair varieties (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The quartet of principal phases in the laboratory handling of a drug test outcome are Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning entails the preliminary handling of a sample into a laboratory’s system. This encompasses confirming that the sample was adequately sealed and dispatched, allotting a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and finalizing any extra data input not furnished by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening comprises an initial swift evaluation for illicit substances. Although Screening is an economical means to exclude drug consumption in most samples, a positive screen must be validated to be permissible in legal settings. Any samples deemed presumptively positive in Screening necessitate a secondary confirmation.

Should a sample register presumptively positive in the Screening stage, additional hair is extracted from the initial sample and readied for Extraction. During this period, drugs are withdrawn from hair at a far lesser concentration than in other methodologies (such as urine or oral fluid), which renders hair drug screening the most complex methodology to execute.

Verification of any positive screening outcome is carried out via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positive samples are cleansed before confirmation as required. The entire lab procedure from Accessioning to Confirmation is scrutinized under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair classification and the accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection timeframe: Hair drug tests can identify drug use for up to 90 days, as opposed to urine tests which have a more restricted detection timeframe.
  • Challenging to deceive: It is exceedingly challenging to deceive a hair drug test, enhancing the accuracy of the outcomes.
  • Delivers historical insights: It can supply a pattern of drug consumption over an elongated duration, not merely recent usage.

Limitations:

  • Inability to recognize recent consumption: It requires around 5-7 days for drugs to become detectable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests are typically more pricey than alternative drug testing approaches.
  • Variance in results: Variables such as hair color and individual discrepancies in hair growth can influence the concentration of drug metabolites in the hair.

Note: Even though often cited as "hair follicle tests", the examination itself analyzes the hair strand and not the hair follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Considering the advantages, hair follicle testing often surpasses urine tests in Trinity, AL. While traditional urine tests detect recent drug use efficiently, hair follicle tests offer superior detection over an extended period, revealing drug use history that urine tests might miss.

Employers and authorities appreciate hair tests for their long-term reliability, as they give a comprehensive view of an individual’s substance habits, offering deeper insights than what urine tests might provide.

Extended Detection Window

The extended detection window of hair follicle testing in Trinity, AL, is unparalleled. Unlike other methods, this test reveals drug use up to 90 days prior, offering a broader understanding of an individual’s substance history for potential employers.

This extensive timeframe allows employers to gain a thorough perspective on the applicant's or employee's substance use, crucial for making informed decisions and ensuring a safe, drug-free workplace.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
