Accredited Drug Testing provides extensive hair follicle drug assessments in Port Lions, Alaska. If a hair drug or alcohol test is required, Accredited Drug Testing excels in hair testing, with centers nationwide to conduct these tests. Generally, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the crown or body is necessary. Tests can evaluate for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or offer tailored hair testing options.
Recently, hair follicle drug tests have become more prevalent for drug screening. Courts, employers, and Substance Abuse experts are opting for hair tests over traditional urine tests. Hair tests are favored by employers with zero-tolerance drug policies, courts, and probationers. Hair analysis is regarded as an effective method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair captures long-term chemical evidence of alcohol and other substances by embedding biomarkers within the hair fiber as it grows. When sampled near the scalp, hair offers an estimated 3-month assessment period for substances. Hair samples are straightforward to gather, relatively tamper-proof, and simple to transport.
A sample measuring 1.5 inches and containing roughly 200 individual hairs (similar to a #2 pencil in width) taken closest to the scalp provides approximately 100mg, which is an ideal quantity for both screening and verification. For tests involving EtG, additional markers, and/or more than 10 panels, a sample size of 150mg is advisable. Using a jeweler’s scale to weigh the specimen is recommended. Should scalp hair be absent, a comparable quantity of hair from the body may be utilized. "Head hair" strictly implies scalp hair, while "body hair" encompasses all other forms (facial, underarm, etc.).
Process Overview
The drug testing laboratory process consists of four primary steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.
Accessioning involves the sample's processing entry into the laboratory system. This step ensures the sample was sealed and dispatched correctly, assigns it a unique LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes any missing data entry not covered by the electronic custody system.
Screening provides an initial assessment for common drugs. As a cost-conscious tool, it rules out usage in most samples; however, for legal acceptance, positive screenings must undergo confirmation. Presumed positives from Screening need further validation.
If initial Screening suggests positivity, additional hair is extracted from the original sample for further preparation leading to Extraction. In this step, low-concentration drug substances are isolated from hair, making this methodology more challenging than others like urine or oral fluid, which displays lower concentrations.
Confirmation for any positive from the screening is conducted through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS techniques. Before Confirmation, presumptive positives undergo necessary washing. The entire process from Accessioning to Confirmation is supervised under the guidelines of CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair certification and the ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation.
