Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug assessments in Bosque, Arizona. If you're in need of a hair analysis for drugs or alcohol, our expertise lies in hair testing, with facilities across cities nationwide ready to conduct the evaluation. Generally, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from your head or body is required. These tests can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, or be tailored for unique hair analysis needs.

Recently, the approach to drug assessments increasingly incorporates hair follicle drug testing. Many employers, judicial systems, and addiction specialists prefer hair testing over traditional urine evaluations. This method is favored by those with strict no-drug policies, legal authorities, and probation requirements. A significant advantage is its extended drug detection window, often up to 90 days, collected under direct observation, making it highly secure against manipulation. Nevertheless, urine tests remain the gold standard for identifying recent drug use within the past 5 days.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis has emerged as an effective method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair captures a timeline of alcohol and drug intake by embedding biomarkers within its fibers during growth. When sampled near the scalp, hair offers up to a roughly three-month timeframe for detecting alcohol and drugs. Hair collection is straightforward, relatively challenging to tamper with, and convenient to transport.

A 1.5-inch section of around 200 hair strands (about the thickness of a #2 pencil) near the scalp yields 100mg, which is the ideal quantity for both screening and confirmation. For EtG, additional tests, and/or assessments exceeding 10 panels, a sample weighing 150mg is advised. It's recommended to measure the sample with a jeweler's scale. If scalp hair isn't accessible, an equivalent amount of body hair can be collected. Head hair exclusively pertains to scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory processing of a drug test result consists of four primary stages: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning involves integrating a sample into a laboratory's system initially. This process includes verifying that the sample was properly sealed and shipped, assigning it a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any additional data entry not provided via an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening is a preliminary check for drugs of abuse. While Screening is a cost-efficient approach to exclude drug usage in most cases, a positive screen needs validation for court admissibility. Samples that show presumptive positive results in Screening require further confirmation.

If a sample tests presumptively positive during Screening, additional hair is extracted from the original specimen and readied for Extraction. During this phase, drugs are retrieved from hair at much lower concentrations than in other testing methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), which is why hair drug analysis is the most challenging methodology to conduct.

Confirmation of any positive outcome in Screening is carried out using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positive samples are cleansed before confirmation if required. The comprehensive laboratory process from Accessioning to Confirmation is evaluated under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests can determine drug use for up to 90 days, whereas urine tests have a shorter detection period.
  • Resistance to cheating: Cheating a hair drug test is notably difficult, resulting in more reliable outcomes.
  • Supplies historical data: It can indicate a pattern of drug use over time, rather than just recent usage.

Limitations:

  • Incapable of identifying recent usage: It takes around 5-7 days for drugs to become detectable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests typically cost more compared to other drug testing methodologies.
  • Result variations: Elements such as hair color and individual differences in hair growth can influence the concentration of drug metabolites in hair.

Note: Although commonly known as "hair follicle tests", the examination actually analyzes the hair strand and not the hair follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Hair follicle testing offers distinct advantages over urine tests in Bosque, AZ. Unlike the limited detection window of traditional urine analyses, hair testing can identify substance use for up to 90 days, delivering a broader detection range. This attribute provides companies with a more in-depth review of an employee's history, ensuring a more accurate reflection of their lifestyle choices.

Choosing hair tests over urine assessments secures more accurate results for employers in Bosque, AZ. The extended detection time offers a clearer picture of an individual's drug use history. This capability provides employers with enhanced reliability, maintaining a drug-free workplace through a more transparent understanding of their workforce's habits.

Extended Detection Window

One of the significant benefits of hair follicle testing in Bosque, AZ is its broad detection window. Compared to other methods, it can detect drug use for up to 90 days, offering a comprehensive view over time. This extensive window ensures that any substance misuse is identified, granting employers a consistent and insightful understanding of employee behavior and compliance with company policies.

Employers benefit from the extended detection capabilities of hair follicle testing in Bosque, AZ. Providing an extensive substance history, these tests enable organizations to make better-informed hiring decisions. The 90-day window captures patterns of use not accessible with short-term assessments, improving workplace safety standards over time.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
