In Allport, Arkansas, Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug testing. Whether you're in need of drug or alcohol testing via hair samples, we're the specialists you can trust. With our nationwide facilities available for hair tests, it's crucial to have 1.5 to 2 inches of hair on your head, or alternatively, body hair may be used in most cases. We offer analyses for drugs, alcohol/ETG, and other tailored options.

The popularity of hair follicle testing has surged recently, becoming a staple for drug screening for employers, courts, and substance abuse professionals. Opting for a hair-based drug test instead of traditional urine tests is favored by many due to the zero-tolerance policies some organizations have. Notably, the significant advantage is the extended detection window, allowing for drug use identification up to 90 days, making it nearly impossible to tamper with compared to urine tests, which still excel in detecting very recent drug use.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is now recognized as an effective approach for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair offers an extended history of substances by capturing biomarkers in the strands as hair grows. When collected near the scalp, hair can reveal substance use for up to around a 3-month duration for alcohol and drugs. It is straightforward to collect, somewhat challenging to tamper with, and simple to transport.

A 1.5-inch segment of roughly 200 hair strands (similar to the size of a #2 pencil) nearest the scalp will produce 100mg, which is the perfect sample for evaluation and validation. For EtG, additional tests, or those exceeding 10 panels, 150mg of the sample is advised. It's best to weigh the sample with a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair is missing, an equivalent amount of body hair may be gathered. When mentioning head hair, we refer only to scalp hair. Body hair includes other hair varieties (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The lab processing of a drug test result primarily involves four stages: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning is the first phase of incorporating a sample into the system of a laboratory. This step confirms the sample’s proper sealing and shipping, assigns it a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes any additional information required that's not covered by an electronic chain of custody.

Screening conducts an initial rapid test for drug misuse. While this initial testing is economical for eliminating drug use in most samples, any positive screen requires validation for court proceedings. A positive indication in Screening necessitates further confirmation.

If Screening suggests a positive result, additional hair is taken from the original sample for preparation for Extraction. In this phase, drugs are extracted from hair at much lower concentrations than other methods (such as urine or oral fluid), making hair drug screening the most complex to perform.

The Confirmation of any positive screening result uses GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS methods. Any presumptive positives are cleansed before confirmation as necessary. From Accessioning to Confirmation, the entire process is conducted under both CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and compliance with ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests reveal substance use up to 90 days, compared to urine tests with shorter detection periods.
  • Hard to falsify: Cheating a hair drug test is notably difficult, ensuring more reliable outcomes.
  • Historical usage data: It displays a pattern of substance use over time, rather than just recent usage.

Limitations:

  • Inability to detect recent use: Drugs only become detectable in hair after roughly 5-7 days.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests tend to be costlier than other testing techniques.
  • Result variability: Aspects such as hair color and individual growth differences can influence drug metabolite levels in hair.

Note: Although termed as "hair follicle tests", these tests evaluate the hair strand rather than the hair root beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Allport, AR, the choice of hair follicle testing over traditional urine testing offers enhanced benefits. Hair testing shows a notable edge in both detection accuracy and reliability. In contrast to urine tests, which are limited to recent drug intake, hair tests provide a broader time scope for detecting substance use. This advanced method is indispensable in ensuring comprehensive drug policy compliance for organizations.

Extended Detection Window

Hair follicle testing offers an Extended Detection Window in Allport, AR, showcasing its superiority over other methods. The ability to trace drug use up to 90 days back provides an encompassing view of one's substance history. This extensive detection timeframe allows employers to make informed decisions, ensuring a comprehensive evaluation of employees' or applicants' past substance use.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

The Tamper-Resistant Testing Method employed by hair follicle tests in Allport, AR, significantly reduces risks of adulteration seen in other testing methods. The integrity and reliability of the results are unquestionable, providing peace of mind to employers. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
