Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Big Fork, Arkansas. Whether you require a hair drug or alcohol test, our expertise lies in hair testing, with testing centers available in cities nationwide to facilitate this. Typically, about 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from your head or body is needed. Hair testing options can include drugs, alcohol/ETG, or bespoke tests.

Recently, the approach to drug testing has increasingly embraced hair follicle drug tests. Courts, employers, and Substance Abuse professionals often prefer hair tests to traditional urine tests. These tests are essential for organizations with zero-tolerance drug policies, courts, and those on probation. Hair tests excel with a 90-day detection span, observed collection, and are nearly impossible to tamper, unlike urine tests, which though precise for recent drug use, only cover the past 5 days.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis is increasingly recognized as a potent method for identifying alcohol and drug consumption. Hair captures a long-term record of substance use by embedding biomarkers within the hair strand's fibers. When taken near the scalp, hair can offer nearly a 90-day detection timeframe for alcohol and drugs. It is easy to collect, challenging to tamper with, and simple to ship.

A 1.5-inch portion of approximately 200 hair strands (around the width of a #2 pencil) closest to the scalp will provide 100mg of hair, which is the optimal sample for both screening and confirmation. For EtG, add-ons, and/or tests exceeding 10 panels, 150mg of the sample is advised. Using a jeweler’s scale for weighing the specimen is recommended. If scalp hair is absent, an equivalent amount of body hair may be gathered. References to head hair specifically pertain to scalp hair. Body hair includes all other types of hair (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The lab processing of a drug test result consists of four principal phases: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning incorporates the initial intake of a sample into the lab’s system. This step ensures the sample's proper sealing and shipment, assigns a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes any extra data entry absent in an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening provides a swift preliminary check for drug abuse. Although Screening offers a cost-efficient means to eliminate drug use for the majority of samples, a positive result requires confirmation to be court-admissible. Any samples that test presumptively positive in Screening demand a secondary confirmation.

If a sample shows a presumptively positive result in Screening, additional hair is extracted from the original sample and prepped for Extraction. In this phase, drugs are drawn from hair at significantly lower concentrations compared to other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), which makes hair drug screening the most challenging methodology.

Confirmation of a positive screening result is performed using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positive samples undergo washing before confirmation as necessary. The complete lab process from Accessioning to Confirmation is vetted under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and complies with ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection reach: Hair drug tests can identify drug use for up to 90 days, in contrast to urine tests with a shorter detection span.
  • Hard to falsify: Cheating a hair drug test is notably difficult, thus yielding more reliable results.
  • Delivers historical insight: It can reveal a trend of drug use over time, not solely recent use.

Limitations:

  • Cannot identify recent use: Drugs take roughly 5-7 days to be traceable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests typically cost more than other drug testing methods.
  • Result variations: Factors like hair color and individual differences in hair growth can influence the concentration of drug metabolites in the hair.

Note: Even though often termed as "hair follicle tests", the test evaluates the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Hair follicle testing is preferred over urine testing in Big Fork, AR, due to its superior detection accuracy. Unlike urine tests, hair tests offer a longer detection window, typically up to 90 days, providing a more comprehensive understanding of drug use. This makes hair testing a valuable tool for employers who need to enforce strict drug policies.

The reliability of hair testing surpasses that of traditional urine tests. While urine tests can be influenced by recent drug use, they fall short in detecting long-term usage patterns. Hair tests, collected under observed conditions, minimize tampering risks and ensure authentic results.

Extended Detection Window

In Big Fork, AR, the extensive detection window of hair follicle tests, spanning up to 90 days, provides a thorough analysis of an individual's substance history. This extended period allows employers to assess an applicant or employee's long-term behavior, which is invaluable for maintaining a safe and compliant workplace.

This comprehensive drug use history is crucial for roles requiring high levels of trust and responsibility. Employers can gain insight into behavioral patterns that may affect job performance, thus making informed hiring or management decisions based on a wider timeline.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

The tamper-resistant nature of hair follicle testing in Big Fork, AR, is a significant advantage over other methods. Unlike urine samples, which are easily adulterated, hair samples provide a resilient alternative. Collected and analyzed under stringent procedures, hair tests ensure integrity and reliability.

This robustness means that sample adulteration is significantly reduced, affording undeniable confidence in results. By employing this method, organizations can trust in the authenticity of their drug-testing processes, enhancing their credibility and internal standards.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
