In Cash, Arkansas, Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug analysis. Whether you require drug or alcohol hair testing, our expertise in this area is unparalleled, with testing facilities available nationwide. Typically, hair from the crown or body ranging from 1.5 to 2 inches is necessary. Hair analysis can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, and offer various tailored testing options.

Of late, hair follicle drug assessments have gained traction over traditional testing methods. Many employers, judicial systems, and substance abuse experts are transitioning to hair-based testing. This method is favored by those enforcing zero-tolerance drug policies. Its key advantage is an extensive detection window, lasting up to 90 days, and its observed collection process ensures integrity, making it harder to manipulate results. However, for drug use detection within the immediate past 5 days, urine tests remain the gold standard.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is now recognized as an excellent method for detecting drug and alcohol consumption. Hair gives a detailed history of substance use by encasing biomarkers within the strands of growing hair. When taken from near the scalp, it can indicate the presence of alcohol and drugs for up to roughly a 3-month period. Collection is straightforward, altering the sample is challenging, and transportation is efficient.

A 1.5-inch length of about 200 strands of hair (roughly equivalent to the thickness of a #2 pencil) cut nearest the scalp constitutes 100mg of hair, which is the ideal sample size for both screening and confirmation purposes. For tests involving EtG, additional elements, or more than 10 panels, a sample of 150mg is advised. Using a jeweler’s scale for measuring the sample is suggested. If scalp hair is not accessible, an equivalent amount of body hair can suffice. In context, head hair refers specifically to scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other hair varieties (such as facial or axillary hair).

Process Overview

There are four primary stages in the lab processing of a drug test: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning is the first stage where a sample is incorporated into the laboratory system. This step ensures the sample's seal and shipping integrity, assigns a unique LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and finalizes any additional data entry that the electronic chain of custody system hasn’t.

Screening involves a preliminary evaluation for any drugs of abuse. Although Screening is a cost-efficient method to determine drug use in most samples, a screen that returns positive must be confirmed to hold up in court. Samples yielding presumptive positive results during Screening require a follow-up confirmation.

If a sample is determined presumptively positive at the Screening phase, extra hair is taken from the original sample and prepped for Extraction. Here, drugs are extracted from hair at lower concentrations than in alternatives like urine or oral fluid testing, which makes hair drug testing a complex methodology.

Confirmation for any positive screening outcome is achieved through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS methods. All samples that test presumptively positive undergo washing before confirmation if needed. The entire procedural flow from Accessioning to Confirmation is scrutinized under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair specification and accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Sustained detection window: Hair drug tests can uncover drug use for up to 90 days, whereas urine tests have a briefer detection window.
  • Hard to manipulate: Cheating a hair drug test is quite difficult, leading to more reliable results.
  • Offers longitudinal data: It can showcase drug use trends over time, not just immediate usage.

Limitations:

  • Incapable of recent use detection: Drugs need about 5-7 days to become traceable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests often cost more compared to other drug testing techniques.
  • Result variability: Factors like hair color and individual hair growth differences can influence the level of drug metabolites in hair samples.

Note: Commonly called "hair follicle tests", the test analyzes hair strands themselves and not the hair follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

When comparing drug detection methods in Cash, AR, hair follicle testing emerges as a superior option. Unlike traditional urine tests, hair testing offers higher detection accuracy and extends the detection window, providing a more complete picture of substance use. This method bolsters reliability, making it the preferred choice for entities with strict drug policies.

The benefits of choosing hair follicle testing over urine assessments are evident in their enhanced precision and reduced vulnerability to manipulation. With detection capabilities spanning up to 90 days, employers gain critical insights into an individual’s substance history, ensuring a safe and compliant workplace environment.

Extended Detection Window

One of the most significant advantages of hair follicle testing is its extended detection window, lasting up to 90 days. This method grants employers in Cash, AR a comprehensive insight into drug consumption history. By tracking substance use over such an extended period, employers can make more informed decisions regarding potential employees.

Hair testing's capability to detect drugs over a prolonged timeframe is particularly advantageous for organizations seeking to maintain a drug-free workplace. The extended window allows for thorough assessments, offering a clearer understanding of an individual's long-term substance habits, safeguarding workplace integrity.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

In Cash, AR, the reliability of hair follicle drug tests stems from their resistance to tampering. This testing method significantly diminishes the risk of sample adulteration, offering trustworthy and undeniable results. With stringent protocols in place, companies can confidently rely on the integrity of the assessment process.

Hair follicle testing is notable for its tamper-resistant nature, safeguarding against potential falsifications. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
