Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services right in Dalton, Arkansas. Whether for hair drug or alcohol tests, Accredited Drug Testing is a leader in hair testing, serving all cities nationwide through extensive testing centers capable of performing hair analysis. Usually, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the crown or body is required. Hair tests are customizable for drugs, alcohol/ETG, and more.

Recently, hair follicle drug testing has gained traction as a preferred method for drug screening. This approach is being selected over standard urine tests by employers, the judiciary, and substance abuse professionals. Zero-tolerance employers, courts, and probation cases frequently use hair drug tests due to their benefits, such as extended detection up to 90 days, observed collection, and near impossibility of tampering. Still, for drug use detection within the last 5 days, urine tests remain the most precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis is now recognized as an effective means of identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair captures a long-term record of alcohol and drug presence by embedding biomarkers within the fibers of the growing hair strand. When strands are gathered near the scalp, they offer up to a three-month detection period for alcohol and other drugs. Hair collection is straightforward, relatively hard to tamper with, and convenient to transport.

A 1.5-inch section of roughly 200 hair strands (around the thickness of a #2 pencil) closest to the scalp yields 100mg of hair, ideal for screening and verification. For EtG, additional tests, and tests exceeding 10 panels, 150mg of the sample is suggested. We advocate for using a jeweler’s scale to weigh the sample. Should scalp hair be unavailable, an equivalent amount of body hair might be gathered. In context, head hair relates to scalp hair solely, while body hair encompasses all other hair types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The drug testing laboratory procedure comprises four primary stages: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning entails the preliminary handling of a sample into a lab's system. This step ensures the sample was properly sealed and sent, assigns a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes any extra data input absent from an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening involves a preliminary rapid assessment for drugs of abuse. Although Screening is a cost-efficient method to dismiss drug usage in most samples, any positive screen must be validated for court acceptance. Samples with presumptive positive results in Screening necessitate a secondary verification.

If a sample is presumptively positive during Screening, additional hair is taken from the initial sample for Extraction. Here, drugs are isolated from hair at a much lowered concentration versus other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), substantiating why hair drug screening is considered the most intricate methodology to execute.

GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS is employed to confirm any positive screening results. All presumptive positives are washed prior to confirmation as needed. From Accessioning to Confirmation, the entire laboratory process is reviewed under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Long detection window: Hair drug tests can reveal drug use over a 90-day period, unlike urine tests which have a brief detection window.
  • Difficulty to cheat: It is very challenging to falsify a hair drug test, enhancing result accuracy.
  • Provides historical data: It illustrates a timeline of drug use, not merely recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Cannot detect recent use: Drugs become detectable in hair roughly 5-7 days after use.
  • Cost: Hair drug tests tend to be pricier than alternative drug testing techniques.
  • Variations in results: Elements like hair color and personal differences in hair growth can impact the concentration of drug metabolites in the hair.

Note: Despite being referred to as "hair follicle tests", the analysis targets the hair strand rather than the follicle beneath the scalp

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Dalton, AR, hair follicle tests surpass traditional urine tests in evaluating drug use. Hair testing wins with its broader drug use detection capabilities, giving it the upper hand in accuracy and dependability.

Superior detection allows hair tests to identify long-term drug use more effectively than urine tests, ensuring a more comprehensive analysis of substance history.

Extended Detection Window

Employers in Dalton, AR, benefit from an extended detection window with hair follicle testing, capturing drug use history of up to 90 days. This method provides a detailed view of an individual's substance habits.

Unlike traditional methods, hair testing allows examination of chronic substance use, offering employers a profound insight into patterns rather than just recent activities.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
