Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services within Delight, AR. If a hair drug or alcohol test is what you need, we concentrate on such specialized testing. With centers nationwide, we can facilitate a hair test straightforwardly. You'll need 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from your head or body for most cases. These tests are suitable for detecting drugs, alcohol/ETG, and other tailored testing needs.

Recently, drug testing methods increasingly feature hair follicle tests. Employers, judicial authorities, and Substance Abuse experts now favor this over the traditional urine test. Hair follicle tests appeal to employers with a strict no-drug policy, courts, and probation programs. Their extensive detection period, generally up to 90 days, collected under supervision, diminishes cheating chances. Yet, the urine test remains accurate when detecting recent drug use within 5 days.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is now recognized as an effective means of identifying drug and alcohol usage. It provides a comprehensive record of substance use over time by embedding biomarkers within the hair fibers. When cut near the scalp, hair can offer a detection period of up to three months for alcohol and drugs. Hair collection is straightforward, challenging to manipulate, and hassle-free to transport.

A 1.5-inch piece consisting of about 200 hair strands (approximately the size of a #2 pencil) closest to the scalp yields 100mg of hair, which is the optimal amount for both screening and confirmation. For EtG, add-ons, and/or tests exceeding 10 panels, a specimen of 150mg is advised. We suggest weighing the sample using a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair cannot be obtained, an equivalent volume of body hair can be used. When we talk about head hair, we're specifically referring to scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other types of hair (such as facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory drug test processing is comprised of four essential stages: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning handles the initial integration of a sample into the lab’s database. It involves confirming that the sample was appropriately sealed and transported, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any extra data input not included in an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening executes an initial rapid assessment for the presence of drugs. Although Screening is a cost-effective approach to dismiss drug use in most samples, a positive result in Screening necessitates confirmation to be valid in legal proceedings. All samples that indicate positive results in Screening require further confirmation.

In cases where a sample shows a positive result during Screening, additional hair is extracted from the original specimen for the Extraction process. In this phase, drugs are extracted from hair at a significantly lower concentration than other techniques (such as urine or oral fluid), making hair drug testing one of the most complex methods to carry out.

GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS technologies are used to confirm any positive outcomes from Screening. Before confirmation, all samples showing presumptive positives undergo cleansing as required. The entire laboratory sequence from Accessioning to Confirmation is evaluated under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 criteria.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Lengthy detection timeframe: Hair drug testing can identify drug consumption for as long as 90 days, unlike urine testing which provides a shorter timeframe.
  • Challenging to deceive: Cheating a hair drug test is extremely difficult, enhancing result accuracy.
  • Offers historical insight: It reveals a drug use pattern over time, not just recent activity.

Limitations:

  • No recent use detection: Drugs become detectable in hair roughly 5-7 days post-use.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests are typically pricier compared to other testing methods.
  • Result variability: Drug metabolite concentration in hair can be influenced by factors such as hair color and individual hair growth variances.

Note: Referred to colloquially as "hair follicle tests," the test itself scrutinizes the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Delight, AR, the edge hair follicle testing holds over urine testing is its superior detection accuracy. While urine tests often identify recent use, hair testing opens a much longer window of identification. This comprehensive capability makes it especially valuable for workplaces and institutions demanding stringent drug use policies. Additionally, the stability of hair samples contributes to reliable findings, enhancing trust in the results.

Extended Detection Window

Hair follicle drug testing in Delight, AR, captures a unique advantage with its extended detection window. Over a period of up to 90 days, these tests offer a thorough view into substance use history. Such prolonged monitoring aids employers in thoroughly evaluating applicants or employees, ensuring they meet organizational standards. The extended window creates a detailed picture of an individual’s potential drug use over time.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

The robust nature of hair follicle testing significantly curtails the risk of tampering, making it a preferred choice in Delight, AR. Because hair can store drug traces for months, it’s notably harder for individuals to interfere with results. Laboratories employ strict protocols to ensure the authenticity of hair samples, thereby providing results that are reliable and untainted by external manipulation.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
