Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug assessments in Egypt, Arkansas. Should you require a hair drug or alcohol examination, we specialize in hair testing and boast testing centers in all cities across the nation capable of performing these tests. Typically, a minimum of 1.5 to 2 inches of hair on your head or body is needed. These tests can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other tailor-made testing options.

In recent times, drug testing methods have increasingly incorporated hair follicle assessments. Numerous employers, judicial systems, and Substance Abuse professionals now favor hair drug tests over traditional urine tests. These tests are utilized by employers upholding zero-tolerance policies, the courts, and those on probation. The key advantage of this method is its extended detection period, lasting up to 90 days, through an observed process which is challenging to manipulate. Nevertheless, for drug use detection within the preceding 5 days, urine analysis remains unparalleled in accuracy.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is regarded as an effective means to identify drug and alcohol consumption. It offers a prolonged history of substances by capturing biomarkers within the strands of hair as it grows. When cut near the scalp, hair can reveal about a 3-month history of substance use. It is easy to collect, relatively resistant to falsification, and simple to transport.

Collecting a 1.5-inch length of roughly 200 hairs (comparable to a #2 pencil) from the scalp yields 100mg, the ideal sample for both screening and verification. For EtG, additional tests, or more than 10 panels, 150mg is suggested. We advise using a jeweler's scale to weigh the sample. Should scalp hair be absent, an equivalent measurement of body hair is acceptable. "Head hair" specifically means scalp hair, while "body hair" includes all other types (facial, underarm, etc.).

Procedure Overview

The process for lab analysis of a drug test result comprises of Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning is the initial step of integrating a sample into a laboratory's system, confirming the sample's seal and proper shipment, assigning a unique LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and inputting unprovided data into the electronic chain of custody system.

Screening is a preliminary evaluation for drugs of misuse. It is affordable for excluding drug use in many cases, yet requires confirmation of positive results for legal acceptance. Samples that screen as preliminarily positive require secondary verification.

When a sample tests positive in Screening, additional hair is extracted from the primary sample for Extraction. During this, drugs are removed from hair at a lower concentration than other techniques like urine or oral fluid, making hair drug testing the most challenging to perform.

Verification of any positive screening is performed using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS or LC/MS/MS. All samples with presumed positives undergo a wash before confirmation as necessary. The comprehensive lab process, from Accessioning to Confirmation, is examined under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation.

Benefits of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug testing can identify drugs for up to 90 days, versus the shorter span of urine tests.
  • Hard to deceive: Hair drug testing results are reliable because tampering with them is challenging.
  • Shows historical usage: It can present a timeline of drug consumption over time, not just recent instances.

Drawbacks:

  • Can't indicate recent consumption: Drugs take about 5-7 days to become apparent in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests generally cost more than other methods of drug screening.
  • Result variations: Factors such as hair color and individual hair growth variations can impact drug metabolite levels in hair.

Note: Although often called "hair follicle tests", this test analyzes the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing in Egypt, AR

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
