At Accredited Drug Testing, we offer comprehensive hair follicle drug testing solutions in Franklin, Arkansas. When you’re in need of a hair drug or alcohol test, our expertise in hair testing makes us the ideal choice. We operate multiple testing centers nationwide, ensuring seamless access to hair tests. Typically, samples are taken from hair measuring 1.5 to 2 inches from the crown or body. These tests can identify drugs, alcohol/ETG, and other substances as per your needs.

In the past years, hair follicle testing has grown in popularity for drug screening. Many employers, the judicial system, and substance abuse experts are opting for hair testing over the standard urine tests. Hair follicle drug tests are favored by companies with strict no-drug policies, courts, and individuals on probation due to their long detection capabilities. They provide a detection window of up to 90 days, collected under supervision, making it almost infallible. However, urine tests remain preferred for detecting recent drug use, within the last 5 days, due to their accuracy in such cases.

What it is, How it works

Recognized as a significant method for unveiling drug and alcohol consumption, hair testing leverages its capability to trap biomarkers in the fibers of a growing strand. When sourced near the scalp, hair samples offer a detection timeframe of up to 90 days for substances. The collection process for hair is uncomplicated, and it's quite challenging to tamper with, alongside being effortlessly shippable.

A sample measuring 1.5 inches from roughly 200 hair strands (equivalent to the diameter of a #2 pencil) situated closest to the scalp delivers 100mg, deemed optimal for conducting screening and confirmation. For EtG, additional tests, or panels exceeding ten, the specimen should ideally be 150mg. It's advisable to weigh the sample using a jeweler’s scale. In cases where scalp hair is inaccessible, an equivalent amount of body hair is an alternative. The term head hair specifically pertains to scalp hair, whereas the term body hair encompasses all other forms (like facial and axillary hair).

Procedure Outline

The drug testing laboratory process comprises four pivotal phases: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

During Accessioning, the sample is initially processed into the laboratory's system. This phase ensures the sample's proper sealing and shipment, allocates a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and accompanies any necessary data entry absent from an electronic chain of custody system.

In the Screening phase, an initial examination detects drug presence. Although cost-effective for determining drug usage in most samples, a positive screen necessitates confirmation for legal acceptance. Samples with potential positive results in Screening undergo further confirmation.

Positive indications in the Screening phase result in additional hair being extracted from the original specimen for the Extraction phase. Drugs are separated from hair using much lower concentrations than other methods (such as urine or oral fluids), which renders hair screening quite intricate.

Positive results from Screening proceed to Confirmation using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. Washing of all presumptive positive samples occurs before confirmation as necessary. The full cycle from Accessioning to Confirmation is evaluated under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation.

Benefits of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests reveal drug use spanning up to 90 days, unlike urine tests with shorter windows.
  • Resistant to manipulation: Hair tests pose significant challenges for cheating, delivering more authentic results.
  • Historical usage insights: Offers a comprehensive view of drug consumption over time, rather than immediate usage.

Drawbacks:

  • Inability to detect recent usage: Detectability in hair surfaces approximately 5-7 days post-consumption.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests bear a higher cost relative to alternative testing approaches.
  • Result inconsistencies: Elements like hair pigmentation and individual hair growth disparities can influence drug metabolite concentrations.

Note: Despite the term "hair follicle tests" being commonly used, the analysis pertains to the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why Hair Follicle Testing Stands Out: In Franklin, AR, hair follicle testing offers superior detection compared to traditional urine tests. With a detection window that exceeds the limits of urine tests, hair testing provides a clearer picture of substance use over a longer period. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
