Accredited Drug Testing supplies extensive hair follicle drug analysis in Harvey, Arkansas. When needing a hair test for drugs or alcohol, rely on Accredited Drug Testing, which has centers throughout all cities nationwide ready to conduct a hair test. The requirement is generally 1.5 to 2 inches of hair on the crown or body. Hair tests detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, or offer tailored hair testing solutions.

In recent times, drug testing approaches have more commonly opted for a hair follicle drug test. A growing number of employers, legal systems, and substance abuse experts mandate a hair drug test over the standard urine test. Employers with strict drug policies, courts, and individuals on probation frequently utilize these tests. The main advantage of a hair follicle test is its extended detection timeline for drug use, typically up to 90 days, collected under observation, and very hard to tamper with. Nevertheless, for drug use within the past five days, urine tests remain the most precise method.

What it is, How it works

The examination of hair has increasingly gained recognition as an effective means of detecting drug and alcohol consumption. Hair retains a comprehensive timeline of alcohol and drug intake by encapsulating biomarkers within the fibers of the hair as it grows. By harvesting hair close to the scalp, one can achieve a detection period of roughly three months for alcohol and drugs. Hair collection is straightforward, with minimal risk of tampering, and is easily transportable.

A 1.5-inch section of roughly 200 hairs (around the width of a #2 pencil) taken nearest the scalp provides 100mg of hair, the preferred quantity for analysis and corroboration. For EtG, supplemental testing, or analytical panels exceeding 10, a sample of 150mg is advised. We suggest using a jeweler’s scale to measure the sample weight. Should scalp hair be unavailable, a comparable amount of body hair is acceptable. Herein, "head hair" specifically refers to scalp hair. "Body hair" pertains to all other hair categories (beard, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The comprehensive lab procedure for processing a drug test outcome encompasses four primary steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning pertains to the sample’s preliminary integration into a lab’s database. This phase includes verifying correct sealing and transport of the sample, generating a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and finalizing any outstanding data inputs not covered by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening represents a preliminary assessment for drug traces. While Screening offers a cost-effective strategy to exclude drug presence in most samples, a positive result necessitates validation to stand up in court. Any samples yielding a presumed positive during Screening require subsequent verification.

On registering a presumed positive at the Screening juncture, additional hair is extracted from the original sample and readied for Extraction. In this phase, drugs are drawn from the hair at reduced concentrations compared to other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), rendering hair drug analysis the most challenging approach to perform.

Confirmation of any positive results from screening occurs through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS techniques. All samples suspected of being positive are cleansed prior to confirmation if needed. The complete lab workflow from Accessioning to Confirmation is scrutinized under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation in conjunction with ISO / IEC 17025 standards accreditation.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug evaluations can trace drug intake for up to 90 days, whereas urine assessments possess a shorter detection range.
  • Challenging to falsify: Cheating a hair drug assessment is notably difficult, enhancing the accuracy of results.
  • Yields historical insights: It can outline a drug consumption pattern over time, not limited to recent usage.

Limitations:

  • Inability to identify recent intake: Detecting drugs in hair takes about 5-7 days post-consumption.
  • Expense: Hair drug assessments tend to be costlier than other drug testing techniques.
  • Result variance: Elements such as hair pigmentation and individual growth discrepancies can influence the drug metabolite concentration in hair.

Note: Though commonly termed "hair follicle tests," the analysis focuses on the hair strand, not the follicle located beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why Hair Follicle Testing Triumphs Over Urine Testing in Harvey, AR lies in its superior detection accuracy and dependability. Hair testing thoroughly outperforms traditional urine tests with a longer detection window, making it a preferred choice for many. Its superior tracking capability ensures a reliable assessment of substance use over time.

Extended Detection Window

Hair follicle testing in Harvey, AR offers an Extended Detection Window, capturing drug use over periods up to 90 days. This gives employers in-depth insight into an individual’s substance usage history. Unlike urine tests, which capture recent use, hair tests provide a more comprehensive assessment.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
