Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services available in Jerusalem, Arkansas. For those needing a hair drug or alcohol test, our specialized services offer nationwide testing centers that can perform these tests. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair taken from your head or body is sufficient. We can analyze hair for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or provide other customized testing solutions.

Recently, the approach to drug testing has increasingly incorporated hair follicle tests. Such tests are often required by employers, courts, and Substance Abuse experts as an alternative to standard urine tests. Hair follicle tests are favored for their zero-tolerance applications by employers, courts, and probationary programs. Their key advantage is an extended detection window for drug use, up to 90 days, secured by observed sample collection, which is almost impossible to falsify. However, urine tests remain the most precise for detecting recent use within five days.

What it is, How it works

Hair strand analysis is recognized as a compelling method for detecting drug and alcohol consumption. Hair retains a long-term record of alcohol and drugs by embedding biomarkers within the strands as they grow. When obtained near the scalp, hair offers up to a 90-day detection period for alcohol and drugs. It is easy to collect, hard to tamper with, and straightforward to transport.

A 1.5-inch segment comprising roughly 200 hair strands (comparable to the size of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp will yield 100mg of hair, perfect for both screening and confirmation. For EtG, additional tests, and/or those beyond 10 panels, 150mg is advisable. We advocate using a jeweler’s scale to weigh the sample. If scalp hair isn't available, a similar amount of body hair can be used. When we mention head hair, we mean only scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory processing of drug test results involves four primary steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning covers the initial sample processing in a lab system. This includes verifying proper sample sealing and shipment, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any data entry not handled by an electronic chain of custody.

Screening entails an initial rapid drug abuse check. Although Screening is an economical approach to dismiss drug use in most samples, any positive result requires confirmation for legal admissibility. Any samples that test positive during Screening need additional confirmation.

If a sample preliminarily tests positive in Screening, more hair is extracted from the original specimen for Extraction. Here, drugs are separated from hair at substantially lower concentrations compared to other methods (such as urine or oral fluid), making hair drug screening particularly challenging.

GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS are used to confirm any positive screening outcomes. All samples that are presumptively positive undergo washing before confirmation if necessary. The complete lab process from Accessioning to Confirmation is scrutinized under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extensive detection period: Hair drug tests can reveal drug use for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests with shorter detection periods.
  • High tamper resistance: Cheating a hair drug test is notably tough, ensuring more reliable results.
  • Offers historical data: It reveals a drug use pattern over time, not just recent usage.

Limitations:

  • Inability to detect recent use: Drugs become detectable in hair approximately 5-7 days after use.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests are generally pricier than other drug testing techniques.
  • Result variability: Factors like hair color and individual hair growth differences can impact drug metabolite concentrations in hair.

Note: Although commonly called "hair follicle tests", it is the hair strand that is analyzed, not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Jerusalem, AR, hair follicle testing triumphs over urine tests due to its superior detection capabilities and reliability. Unlike traditional methods, hair testing can uncover drug use over an extended period, offering a more comprehensive history. This long reach often proves invaluable for employers who need to enforce strict substance policies.

The hair test outperforms the urine test in accuracy, reducing the possibility of elusive results. Its reliability ensures that those using controlled substances are correctly identified, thus reinforcing drug-free workplace initiatives. This makes it a crucial tool for maintaining safety and integrity.

Extended Detection Window

One of the key advantages of hair follicle testing in Jerusalem, AR is its prolonged detection window. This test can reveal drug use up to 90 days prior, thus providing employers a thorough insight into an applicant’s or employee’s drug history. Such extensive detection periods ensure that periodic use is captured, promoting transparency.

Employers benefit from this extended window, making informed decisions about potential hires or current employees. The ability to track substance use over months offers a comprehensive perspective, vital for roles where personal safety and trustworthiness are imperative.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

In Jerusalem, AR, hair follicle testing offers a robust defense against sample tampering, ensuring the trustworthiness of test results. This method's resistance to adulteration means that the collected sample remains intact, yielding reliable findings each time.

Unlike urine tests, which can be compromised in various ways, hair testing offers a secure alternative free from such vulnerabilities. The tamper-resistant nature reinforces the credibility of the tests, which is crucial for entities relying on precise drug use verification.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
