In Keiser, Arkansas, Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services. Whether your testing needs involve drugs or alcohol, our specialty in hair analysis meets your requirements with nationwide testing centers, including those in all major cities. Hair from the crown of the head or body, typically 1.5 to 2 inches, may be tested for substances such as drugs and alcohol/ETG, or other tailored options.

In recent times, hair follicle drug tests have become a preferred method for drug screening. Many organizations, judicial systems, and addiction treatment specialists opt for hair testing rather than the traditional urine tests. This method is favored by employers adhering to strict drug-free policies, legal entities, and probationary supervisors. The significant advantage is its longer detection window, lasting up to 90 days, ensuring a more foolproof and monitored sample collection. Nevertheless, for detecting recent drug use within the past 5 days, urine testing remains the most precise option.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing has evolved into an effective method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair retains a prolonged history of alcohol and drug use by embedding biomarkers within the fibers of the growing hair. When gathered near the scalp, hair can offer an approximate 3-month detection period for alcohol and other substances. Collecting hair is straightforward, challenging to tamper with, and simple to transport.

A 1.5-inch segment of roughly 200 hair strands (roughly the dimension of a #2 pencil) closest to the scalp yields 100mg of hair, which is the optimal amount for screening and verification. For EtG, additional options, and/or tests beyond 10 panels, 150mg of the specimen is advised. It is suggested to weigh the sample on a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair isn't available, a comparable amount of body hair can be used. When referencing head hair, it pertains solely to scalp hair. Body hair includes all other hair variations (facial, underarm, etc.).

Process Overview

There are four primary steps in processing a drug test in the laboratory: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning entails the initial processing of a specimen into a lab’s framework. This involves confirming that the specimen was properly sealed and shipped, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any additional data entry not available through an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening is a preliminary rapid assessment for drugs of abuse. Although Screening is an economical means to eliminate drug usage in most samples, a positive screen must be verified to hold up in legal settings. Samples that are notably positive in Screening require a follow-up confirmation.

If a sample tests presumptively positive during Screening, more hair is selected from the preliminary specimen and readied for Extraction. During this phase, drugs are extracted from hair at a concentration significantly lower than other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), making hair drug screening a challenging method.

Confirmation of any positive screening outcome is conducted via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. Prior to confirmation, all presumptive positive samples undergo washing as appropriate. The entire laboratory procedure from Accessioning to Confirmation is scrutinized under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair criteria and the accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests can uncover drug use for up to 90 days, over urine tests which offer a shorter span.
  • Challenging to deceive: A hair drug test is very challenging to cheat, ensuring more accurate outcomes.
  • Offers historical analysis: It provides a usage pattern for substances over time, beyond just recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Cannot identify recent usage: Drugs take approximately 5-7 days before being detectable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests tend to be pricier compared to other drug testing approaches.
  • Result variance: Aspects such as hair color and personal differences in hair growth can impact the concentration of drug metabolites in the hair.

Note: Although commonly termed as "hair follicle tests", the analysis focuses on the hair strand itself, not the hair follicle beneath the scalp

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Advantages Over Traditional Urine Tests
Hair follicle testing in Keiser, AR, provides a more comprehensive view of substance use compared to urine tests. While urine tests detect recent drug intake, hair analysis covers a broader detection period, revealing drug use over the past 90 days. This capability offers a superior advantage, enhancing trustworthiness in situations where understanding long-term substance abuse patterns is key.

A Game-Changer for Employers and Judicial Systems
For employers and judicial entities in Keiser, AR, the choice between hair and urine testing impacts policy enforcement and compliance. Hair tests' longer detection period ensures a more reliable assessment, essential for organizations enforcing strict drug-free policies or managing probationary requirements. The comprehensive data aids in making informed decisions regarding the individual’s reliability and adherence.

Extended Detection Window

Extended Detection Window in Keiser, AR
The hair follicle drug testing available in Keiser, AR, boasts an unparalleled detection window. Spanning up to 90 days, this method far exceeds the capabilities of more traditional testing, such as urine analysis, which only covers days. This extended timeframe provides employers with expansive insights into an individual's substance use history, crucial for making informed employment decisions.

In-depth Analysis of Historical Drug Use
Offering up to three months' worth of historical data, the hair test delivers a longitudinal view significant for employers in Keiser, AR. The ability to oversee an individual’s substance use over this period offers a powerful tool, ensuring companies make thoroughly informed choices, thus enhancing workplace safety and boosting confidence in staffing judgments.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Reliable and Tamper-Proof in Keiser, AR
Hair follicle testing in Keiser, AR, significantly reduces the risk of sample adulteration, a common issue faced by more traditional methods such as urine tests. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
