Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug screenings in Mabelvale, Arkansas. If a hair drug or alcohol test is what you need, Accredited Drug Testing is your go-to specialist, with centers across all U.S. cities equipped to conduct these tests. A hair sample of 1.5 to 2 inches long is typically required, sourced from the crown or body if necessary. Tests can check for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other tailored options.

In recent times, hair follicle drug tests have become a more common method for substance checking. Employers, judicial systems, and addiction experts are increasingly opting for hair testing over urine tests. Hair follicle assessments are favored by organizations with strict no-drug policies, courts, and probation officers. The key advantage is a longer detection timeline of up to 90 days, gathered via an observed collection procedure, which is nearly foolproof against tampering. Yet, for recent drug use within 5 days, urine analysis remains the most precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is increasingly regarded as an effective instrument for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair can provide an extensive history of substance use by embedding biomarkers in the strands of growing hair. When gathered near the scalp, hair has the potential to reflect a detection timeframe of up to three months for alcohol and drugs. It is easy to collect, challenging to tamper with, and straightforward to transport.

A hair specimen comprising a 1.5-inch section of approximately 200 strands (akin to the thickness of a #2 pencil) close to the scalp, yields 100mg of hair, an optimal sample for initial analysis and confirmation. For EtG or additional panels over 10, 150mg is recommended. We suggest utilizing a jeweler’s scale for weighing the sample. If scalp hair isn't available, a similar quantity of body hair can be used. In reference to head hair, we mean only scalp hair. Body hair includes all other varieties (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The process of processing a drug test result in a lab revolves around four core stages: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning is the initial stage where a sample is introduced into a lab's system. It ensures the sample was appropriately sealed and transported, assigns a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and finalizes any missing data not covered by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening entails an initial probe for drug usage. It is an affordable method to rule out drug use in most samples; however, a positive screen must be verified for court admissibility. Any samples with positive preliminary results require secondary confirmation.

In instances where a sample tests positive during Screening, additional hair is extracted from the original sample for the Extraction phase. Here, drugs are isolated from hair at much smaller concentrations than other methods, such as urine or saliva, which makes hair testing a highly complex procedure.

Confirmation of positive screening outcomes is performed using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positive samples undergo a necessary wash before confirmation. The end-to-end lab procedure, from Accessioning to Confirmation, is audited in line with the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and alignment with ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests identify drug usage for up to 90 days, as opposed to urine tests with shorter detection periods.
  • Cheating resistance: Cheating a hair drug test is exceedingly challenging, enhancing result accuracy.
  • Historical behavior insight: It showcases a pattern of substance use over time, unlike recent use tests.

Limitations:

  • Cannot identify recent drug use: Drugs take roughly 5-7 days to appear in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests are typically pricier than alternative testing methods.
  • Result variability: Elements such as hair color and individual growth differences may influence drug metabolite concentration in hair.

Note: Although often termed "hair follicle tests", the analysis actually focuses on the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing in Mabelvale, AR

The advantages of hair testing over urine testing are clear. Extended Detection: Hair tests can detect drug use for up to 90 days, offering a broader overview of an individual's substance use. Unmatched Accuracy: Unlike urine tests, which can be affected by recent abstinence, hair tests provide a more accurate history of drug use, reducing false negatives and increasing trust in results.

Extended Detection Window

Hair follicle testing offers a much longer window for detection compared to other methods. Comprehensive View: With the ability to trace drug use up to 90 days back, employers gain a complete understanding of an applicant's or employee's substance history. Long-term Insight: This extended period provides a more reliable measure of an individual's drug use habits over time.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
