Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Manning, Arkansas. For those needing a hair drug or alcohol assessment, our expertise in hair testing is unmatched, with nationwide centers available for sample collection. Typically, a sample of 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the crown or body suffices. These tests can screen for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other tailored hair testing needs.

Recently, hair follicle drug testing has become a more prevalent method for drug screenings. Employers, legal entities, and substance abuse experts are increasingly opting for hair tests over conventional urine tests. Organizations with strict anti-drug policies, the judiciary, and individuals on probation are frequent users. The main advantage of hair follicle testing is its extended detection window of up to 90 days, collected under supervision, and offering high resistance to tampering. Nonetheless, urine tests remain the best for detecting very recent drug use within five days.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is now recognized as an effective method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair captures a comprehensive timeline of substance use by embedding biomarkers in the fibers of hair strands. When obtained near the scalp, hair samples offer a detection window of up to about three months for substances. Collection is straightforward, tampering is challenging, and shipping is uncomplicated.

A 1.5-inch segment of approximately 200 hair strands (similar in width to a #2 pencil) cut closest to the scalp yields 100mg of hair, which is ideal for both preliminary and confirmatory testing. For EtG upgrades and over 10-panel tests, 150mg of hair is suggested. Using a jeweler’s scale to measure the specimen is advised. In the absence of scalp hair, a comparable quantity of body hair can be used. "Head hair" specifically refers to scalp hair, while "body hair" encompasses all other types (such as facial and axillary hair).

Process Overview

The drug testing laboratory process is comprised of four key steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning entails the early handling of a sample within the laboratory's system. This process involves ensuring the sample's proper sealing and shipment, assigning a unique LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any leftover data entry not covered by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening offers an initial rapid assessment to identify drug usage. Even though Screening is cost-efficient for eliminating drug usage suspicions in most cases, confirmation is required for courtroom validity. Any samples that yield a presumptive positive result in Screening require further corroboration.

For samples that are presumptively positive at the Screening phase, additional hair is extracted from the original sample and primed for Extraction. In this stage, drugs are separated from hair at significantly lower concentrations than with other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), which accounts for the challenges of performing hair drug screening.

Confirmation of positive Screening results is achieved using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS techniques. All presumptive positive samples undergo washing prior to confirmation as needed. The complete laboratory process, from Accessioning to Confirmation, is evaluated following CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair category and ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extensive detection timeframe: Hair tests can detect drug use for as long as 90 days, unlike urine tests which have shorter detection periods.
  • High tamper resistance: Cheating on a hair drug test is extremely difficult, enhancing result accuracy.
  • Historical usage data: Offers a chronological record of drug consumption over time, not merely recent use.

Limitations:

  • Inability to identify recent use: Drugs are detectable in hair about 5-7 days after use.
  • Expense: Generally, hair drug tests are pricier than other testing methods.
  • Result variability: Factors like hair color and individual differences in hair growth may influence the presence of drug metabolites in hair.

Note: Although commonly termed "hair follicle tests", the examination actually concerns the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Compared to traditional urine testing, hair follicle testing in Manning, AR, offers unparalleled detection accuracy and reliability. Hair tests are less susceptible to manipulation and provide a longer detection window, making them superior for thorough drug use screenings.

Employers benefit from hair testing due to its resilience against tampering and broader scope, capturing drug use history more effectively than urine analysis. This method underscores its advantage for enforcing drug-free policies.

Extended Detection Window

In Manning, AR, hair follicle testing reveals drug use over a much lengthier span, up to 90 days, offering employers a detailed view of an individual's substance use history. This extended detection window aids in assessing long-term habits.

Hair testing's capability to trace drug consumption over several months helps employers maintain safe workplaces, with a clear understanding of potential substance abuse among employees or candidates.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Hair follicle tests in Manning, AR, considerably diminish the possibility of tampering, delivering trustworthy and unassailable results. The process ensures that samples remain untampered, providing peace of mind for both employers and test subjects.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
