Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Newark, Arkansas. In need of a hair drug or alcohol examination? Accredited Drug Testing is your expert in hair testing, boasting nationwide centers for performing hair tests. Typically requiring 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the crown or body, these tests can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, or tailor-fit hair test options.

Lately, hair follicle drug tests have become a more common method for conducting drug tests. Employers, court systems, and Substance Abuse professionals are often mandating hair drug testing over conventional urine tests. Entities with zero-tolerance drug policies, and those overseeing probation, prefer hair follicle tests, which reveal drug use over a longer detection period of up to 90 days. Despite their robustness, urinalysis remains the most precise for detecting recent drug use within five days.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is now recognized as an effective method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair records a long-term usage of alcohol and drugs by encapsulating biomarkers within the fibers of the growing strand. When collected near the scalp, hair can offer a detection window of up to about 3 months for alcohol and drugs. Hair collection is straightforward, somewhat resistant to tampering, and convenient for shipping.

A 1.5-inch sample with approximately 200 hair strands (similar to the thickness of a #2 pencil) near the scalp yields 100mg, which is the optimal sample size for screening and confirmation. For EtG, additional tests, and/or panels exceeding 10, a quantity of 150mg is advisable. It's recommended to weigh the specimen using a jeweler's scale. If scalp hair isn't available, a comparable amount of body hair can be collected. Reference to head hair specifically means scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other types of hair (such as facial, axillary, and more).

Process Overview

There are four primary steps in the laboratory processing of a drug test result, which include Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning refers to the initial sample processing within a laboratory's system. This stage verifies proper sealing and shipping of the sample, assigns a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes any data entry omitted by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening involves a preliminary examination for drugs of abuse. While Screening is an economical method to exclude drug use in most samples, a positive result must be confirmed to be valid in legal proceedings. Samples showing a presumptive positive in Screening require further confirmation.

If a sample tests presumptive positive during the Screening phase, additional hair is extracted from the initial sample and prepared for Extraction. During this phase, drugs are extracted from hair at much lower concentrations compared to other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), explaining why hair drug screening is the most challenging method to execute.

Confirmation of any positive screening is performed via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positive samples undergo washing before confirmation if necessary. The complete laboratory process from Accessioning to Confirmation is audited under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and adheres to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Long detection window: Hair drug tests can reveal drug use for up to 90 days, in contrast to urine tests, which have a shorter detection period.
  • Difficulty to cheat: It is very challenging to cheat on a hair drug test, leading to more credible results.
  • Provides historical data: Offers a pattern of drug use spanning over a period, rather than merely recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Cannot detect recent use: Drugs take about 5-7 days to become detectable in hair.
  • Cost: Hair drug tests tend to be pricier compared to other drug testing methods.
  • Variations in results: Influences like hair color and individual differences in hair growth can impact drug metabolite concentration in hair.

Note: Although sometimes termed as "hair follicle tests", the test actually analyzes the hair strand rather than the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Newark, AR, hair follicle testing surpasses traditional urine tests regarding detection superiority. While both methods serve their purposes, hair analysis provides more accurate and reliable outcomes. Unlike urine, hair testing offers a longer detection window and is less prone to manipulation, making it a trusted choice for definitive drug use verification.

Employers in Newark, AR recognize the advantages of hair follicle tests over traditional urine analyses. With superior accuracy and longer detection periods, hair testing provides a more reliable insight into an individual's substance use history, firmly establishing its utility over older, more conventional methods.

Extended Detection Window

The extended detection window of hair follicle tests in Newark, AR, provides a comprehensive view of substance usage over approximately 90 days. Unlike other testing methods, hair analysis can reveal drug consumption far beyond recent history, offering employers a broader understanding of an individual's substance use patterns over time.

Employers seeking a detailed perspective on drug use in Newark, AR benefit from the prolonged detection capabilities of hair follicle testing. Extending up to 90 days, this testing method is valued for its capacity to uncover substance use history, offering a concise picture that aids informed decision-making for hiring or monitoring employees.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

In Newark, AR, hair follicle testing is celebrated for its robust tamper-resistant features. Unlike urine tests, hair analysis significantly limits sample adulteration opportunities, ensuring results are reliable and trustworthy. This method reduces manipulation risk, providing unmistakable proof of substance use for critical assessments.

Hair follicle testing stands as a formidable barrier against sample tampering in Newark, AR. Its inherent resistance to adulteration offers stakeholders confidence in the test's integrity. By minimizing the chance of manipulation, hair testing secures accurate results, making it the preferred choice for guaranteeing reliable substance evaluations.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
