Accredited Drug Testing offers thorough hair follicle drug testing services in Ogemaw, Arkansas. If you require a hair drug or alcohol analysis, our centers nationwide, including all major cities, specialize in hair testing. For most tests, at least 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the head's crown or other body parts are required. Hair testing is capable of detecting drugs, alcohol/ETG, or can be tailored for specific needs.

Hair follicle drug tests have become increasingly popular for drug testing in recent years. Employers, courts, and substance abuse professionals are opting for hair drug tests over standard urine tests. This method is preferred by companies with strict no-drug-use policies, judicial systems, and probation officers. Its main advantage is a longer detection window, typically extending up to 90 days. Conducted under supervision, it provides reliable results that are difficult to tamper with, although urine tests remain the most precise for recent drug use within five days.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis has emerged as an effective approach for detecting alcohol and drug use. Hair retains a comprehensive history of alcohol and drugs by embedding biomarkers within the hair strand's fibers as it grows. If gathered near the scalp, hair can reveal up to around a 90-day detection timeframe for alcohol and other drugs. It is easy to collect, fairly hard to tamper with, and convenient to transport.

Acquiring a 1.5-inch snippet of roughly 200 hair strands (about a #2 pencil's thickness) nearest to the scalp equates to 100mg of hair, which is ideal for screening and verification. For EtG, additional tests, and/or analyses exceeding 10 panels, 150mg of the sample is suggested. We recommend measuring the sample using a jeweler’s scale. Should scalp hair be inaccessible, an equivalent quantity of body hair can be obtained. When mentioning head hair, we mean only scalp hair. Body hair covers all other variants (facial, axillary, etc.).

Procedure Synopsis

The four primary steps in lab handling of a drug test are Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning entails the sample's initial integration into the laboratory's system. This process ensures the correct sealing and shipping of the sample, assigns a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and finishes any extra data entry missing in an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening conducts an initial, swift evaluation for drug abuse. Although Screening efficiently discounts drug presence in most samples, a positive screen demands validation to be court-acceptable. Any presumptively positive samples in Screening require a follow-up confirmation.

For presumptively positive samples after Screening, additional hair is extracted from the original sample and prepped for Extraction. At this juncture, drugs are extracted from hair in significantly lower concentrations than other methods (e.g., urine or saliva), explaining why hair drug testing is among the hardest to execute.

A GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS verifies any positive results in Screening. Before Confirmation, all presumptive positive samples are cleansed as necessary. Every step from Accessioning to Confirmation is audited under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair protocol and follows accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Benefits of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests reveal drug use for up to 90 days, versus urine tests offering shorter detection periods.
  • Reduced chance of falsification: Hair drug tests are hard to tamper with, thus yielding more accurate results.
  • Offers historical data: It uncovers a drug usage pattern over time, beyond imminent usage.

Drawbacks:

  • Incapable of detecting recent usage: It requires about 5-7 days for drugs to become traceable in hair.
  • Price: Hair drug tests normally cost more than other drug testing techniques.
  • Result variability: Variables such as hair color and individual's hair growth rates can alter drug metabolite concentrations in hair.

Note: Although sometimes identified as "hair follicle tests," the testing actually examines the hair strand and not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why is hair follicle testing superior to urine tests in Ogemaw, AR? Hair tests enhance detection accuracy and reliability due to their extended detection periods and resistance to tampering. Offering a critique against traditional urine testing methods, hair tests provide a broader overview of drug use, identifying long-term substance history that urine samples may miss. Enhanced reliability with hair testing ensures employers and institutions get a clear picture of an individual's substance use.

Extended Detection Window

Hair follicle testing in Ogemaw, AR, boasts an extended detection window, reaching up to 90 days. This extended timeframe enables employers to gain insights into an applicant or employee's long-term substance history, providing a big picture view that other methods can't offer. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
