Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Paron, Arkansas. Our expertise in hair drug and alcohol tests allows us to cater to the needs of individuals nationwide with centers in all cities. Generally, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the crown or body can be used for various analyses, including drugs, alcohol/ETG, or customized tests.

The preference for hair follicle drug tests has risen among employers, courts, and Substance Abuse experts as an alternative to standard urine tests. Organizations with stringent drug policies, legal systems, and probationary programs frequently opt for hair tests due to their extended detection window, up to 90 days, and an observed collection method that minimizes tampering. Nevertheless, urine tests remain the benchmark for identifying recent drug use within the past 5 days.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is now regarded as an effective means for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair captures a long-term record of alcohol and drug use by embedding biomarkers in the growing hair strand's fibers. When taken close to the scalp, hair can offer roughly a 3-month window for detecting drugs and alcohol. Hair is easy to gather, resistant to tampering, and simple to transport.

A sample of 1.5 inches from around 200 hair strands (comparable to the width of a #2 pencil) close to the scalp yields 100mg of hair, which is the optimal amount for screening and confirmation. For EtG, add-ons, and/or tests beyond 10 panels, a specimen of 150mg is suggested. We advise using a jeweler’s scale for weighing the specimen. If scalp hair cannot be obtained, a similar quantity of body hair can be used. References to head hair specifically mean scalp hair. Meanwhile, body hair includes all other types of hair (facial, axillary, and so on).

Process Overview

Laboratory processing of a drug test result consists of four main steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning is the preliminary processing of a sample within a lab's system. It encompasses ensuring the sample was securely sealed and dispatched, generating a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any other data entry not covered by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening provides a quick preliminary check for drugs of abuse. Although Screening is economical for excluding drug usage in most samples, a positive screen must be verified to be accepted in court. Any samples that exhibit presumptive positive results in Screening require a follow-up confirmation.

Should a sample show a presumptive positive at the Screening phase, additional hair is extracted from the initial sample for Extraction. In this phase, drugs are extracted from hair in much lower concentrations than in other techniques (such as urine or oral fluid), reinforcing why hair drug screening is among the most challenging techniques to execute.

The Confirmation of positive screening results is executed using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. Presumptive positive samples undergo washing before confirmation as needed. The entire lab process from Accessioning to Confirmation undergoes review under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extensive detection span: Hair drug tests can reveal drug usage for as long as 90 days, unlike urine tests with a shorter detection period.
  • Challenging to deceive: It's very challenging to manipulate a hair drug test, resulting in more precise outcomes.
  • Supplies historical insights: It provides a pattern of drug consumption over time, not just recent activity.

Limitations:

  • Inability to detect recent use: It takes around 5-7 days for drugs to be traceable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests typically cost more than alternative drug testing methods.
  • Variances in outcomes: Various factors, including hair color and personal differences in hair growth, can impact the drug metabolite concentrations in hair.

Note: Often known as "hair follicle tests," these tests actually assess the hair strand and not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Hair follicle testing surpasses traditional urine tests in Paron, AR due to its superior detection accuracy. Comparison between the two reveals that while urine tests are suitable for recent drug use detection, hair tests excel in identifying long-term substance use. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
