Accredited Drug Testing offers extensive hair follicle drug testing services throughout Perry, Arkansas. If you're in need of a hair-based drug or alcohol test, Accredited Drug Testing excels in this area, with facilities available in all cities across the nation ready to conduct such tests. A length of 1.5 to 2 inches of hair on the crown of your head or body is typically required. Hair samples can be assessed for drugs, ETG/alcohol, or other tailored testing options.

In recent times, the preference for conducting drug tests has increasingly leaned towards hair follicle testing. Various employers, legal bodies, and Substance Abuse experts are mandating hair drug tests as opposed to the conventional urine tests. These tests are favored by employers with strict no-drug-use policies, judicial entities, and probationers. The main advantage of hair follicle testing is its longer detection timeline, generally covering up to 90 days, with observation during collection, making evasion difficult. Despite this, urine tests remain the most reliable for drug use detection within the previous 5 days.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is recognized as an effective method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair records a prolonged history of alcohol and other drugs by embedding biomarkers within the strands. When gathered near the scalp, hair may offer an approximate 3-month detection period for alcohol and various drugs. It is easy to collect, relatively tamper-proof, and convenient to transport.

A sample measuring 1.5 inches, consisting of around 200 hairs (comparable to a #2 pencil) nearest the scalp provides 100mg of hair, an optimal amount for screening and verification. For EtG, additional tests, and/or tests exceeding 10 panels, a quantity of 150mg is advised. We suggest using a jeweler’s scale to weigh the sample. If scalp hair is absent, an equivalent quantity of body hair may be used. When discussing head hair, we refer solely to scalp hair. Body hair includes all other types of hair (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The primary steps in processing a drug test result in a lab are Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning involves the initial integration of a sample into a lab’s system. This encompasses confirming that the sample was correctly sealed and shipped, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any necessary data entry not provided by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening is a preliminary, efficient method to check for drug use. Although Screening is cost-effective for eliminating drug usage in most samples, a positive screen requires confirmation to be valid in court. Any samples that show a presumptive positive in Screening need secondary confirmation.

If a sample shows a presumptive positive in the Screening process, additional hair is taken from the original sample for Extraction. At this phase, substances are extracted from hair at a significantly lower concentration than in other methods (such as urine or oral fluid), which highlights why hair drug testing is the most challenging methodology to execute.

Confirmation of any positive screening result is done using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positive samples go through a washing process before confirmation if necessary. The entire laboratory procedure from Accessioning to Confirmation is evaluated under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests identify drug use for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests which have a shorter detection timeframe.
  • Hard to manipulate: Manipulating a hair drug test is very challenging, increasing accuracy.
  • Offers historical insight: It reveals a trend of drug usage over time, not merely recent activity.

Limitations:

  • Inability to detect recent use: Drugs become detectable in hair after approximately 5-7 days.
  • Cost factor: Hair drug tests tend to be costlier than other drug testing methods.
  • Result variability: Aspects like hair color and individual differences in hair growth can alter the concentration of drug traces in the hair.

Note: Commonly termed "hair follicle tests", the analysis is conducted on the hair strand and not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Perry, AR, hair follicle testing proves superior to traditional urine testing by offering a distinct edge in detection and reliability. While urine tests cover a limited detection window, hair tests extend significantly further, capturing a detailed picture of substance use. The efficacy of hair testing is evident in its ability to retain traces of drugs longer, providing a more comprehensive view.

Hair follicle testing in Perry surpasses urine testing through its broader detection spectrum. While the standard urine test might only identify recent drug use, hair samples reveal longer-term consumption patterns. This strengthens the case for hair testing over urine tests, offering unparalleled detection scope and accuracy.

Extended Detection Window

One of the standout features of hair follicle testing in Perry, AR is its extended detection window. This testing method can reveal drug use spanning up to 90 days, offering employers invaluable insight into an individual's substance history. Such a thorough review surpasses the capacity of more immediate testing procedures, which only capture recent activity.

Employers in Perry, Arkansas benefit from the extensive detection period provided by hair follicle testing. The ability to assess drug use over three months affords a comprehensive understanding of an employee's behavior, helping make informed hiring or regulatory decisions. This method truly sets the benchmark in long-term drug screening.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Hair follicle testing in Perry, AR boasts a notably tamper-resistant structure, minimizing risks associated with adulteration. Unlike urine tests, which can be manipulated easily, hair tests strongly resist such interference. As a result, the outcomes are both reliable and transparent, establishing firm evidence in substance use cases.

The inherent reliability in hair follicle testing stems from its resistance to tampering attempts, ensuring unquestionable outcomes in Perry, AR. This method's design makes adulteration nearly impossible, delivering confidence and integrity in the results, upholding their standing as a trustworthy option in drug testing.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
