Accredited Drug Testing provides thorough hair follicle drug screening services in Sage, Arkansas. If you require a drug or alcohol test utilizing hair samples, Accredited Drug Testing is your expert. Our hair testing is available nationwide at centers in all cities, facilitating a complete analysis for substances such as drugs, alcohol/ETG, or tailored options. Typically, samples need 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the scalp or body for most tests.

In recent years, hair follicle drug tests have become a more prevalent method for substance screening. Employers, judicial systems, and substance abuse specialists increasingly prefer hair tests over the conventional urine tests. Employers with stringent no-drug-use rules, courts, and probation services utilize hair tests for their extended detection capabilities—up to 90 days—with nearly impossible tampering due to direct supervision during collection. Although urine tests remain more accurate for tracing drug intake within the last five days.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is recognized as an effective method for identifying drug and alcohol usage. Hair retains a historical record of substances by capturing biomarkers within the fibers of the hair strand as it grows. When obtained near the scalp, hair samples can offer up to an approximate three-month detection period for substances. The collection process for hair is straightforward, challenging to tamper with, and simple to transport.

A sample measuring 1.5 inches comprising roughly 200 hair strands (similar to the thickness of a #2 pencil) closest to the scalp provides 100mg, which is ideal for both initial tests and confirmations. For EtG, additional protocols, and/or tests exceeding 10 panels, a 150mg specimen is advisable. We suggest using a jeweler’s scale to measure the specimen. If scalp hair is not available, an equivalent quantity of body hair can be used. When mentioning head hair, it specifically refers to scalp hair, while body hair encompasses all other types (e.g., facial, axillary).

Process Overview

The primary phases in laboratory processing of drug tests are Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning involves integrating a sample into a lab's system, ensuring it was sealed and transported correctly, assigning it a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any remaining data entries not covered by an electronic chain of custody system.

During Screening, a preliminary rapid assessment is conducted to identify substances of abuse. While cost-effective for eliminating substances in most specimens, a positive screen requires confirmation to be legally valid. Any samples suspected of being positive in Screening necessitate further confirmation.

Should a sample indicate a presumptive positive during the Screening phase, additional hair is selected from the initial sample for Extraction. This step involves obtaining drugs from the hair at a lower concentration than other techniques (e.g., urine or oral fluid), thus making hair drug testing highly complex.

Any results flagged as positive during screening undergo Confirmation via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. Presumptive positive samples are cleansed before confirmation if necessary. The laboratory's entire process, from Accessioning to Confirmation, falls under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests can identify drug use up to 90 days, whereas urine testing has a shorter timeframe.
  • Challenging to falsify: Hair drug tests are tough to deceive, leading to more reliable outcomes.
  • Offers historical insight: Provides a usage pattern over time instead of only recent use detection.

Limitations:

  • Unable to detect recent usage: It generally takes 5-7 days for substances to become traceable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair testing generally incurs higher costs compared to other drug testing techniques.
  • Result variability: Aspects like hair color and personal differences in hair growth can influence drug metabolite concentration in hair.

Note: This test, frequently termed a "hair follicle test," analyzes the hair strand and does not assess the follicle below the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Sage, AR, hair follicle testing offers notable advantages over traditional urine testing. One primary benefit is the extended detection window, capturing drug use history up to 90 days after consumption. This wider window allows for a more comprehensive assessment of an individual's substance habits, enhancing accuracy and reliability.

Additionally, hair testing minimizes the chance of sample adulteration and false results. These factors elevate its credibility, ensuring employers receive trustworthy data.

Extended Detection Window

Hair follicle testing in Sage, AR, shines with its remarkable ability to identify substance use over an extended time frame. Unlike other methods, hair testing can unveil drug consumption history going back up to 90 days, offering a panoramic view of an individual's substance interactions.

This longer detection period provides employers with valuable insights into potential employees' behavioral trends, contributing to more informed hiring decisions and a safer workplace environment.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

In Sage, AR, the hair follicle drug test stands out as a tamper-resistant solution. By greatly reducing the possibility of sample alteration or contamination, this method ensures the integrity of results.
Compared to other forms of testing, the collected hair sample undergoes rigorous procedures, eliminating concerns about dishonesty and providing security in the test's accuracy and reliability.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
