Offering comprehensive hair follicle drug tests in Springfield, Arkansas, Accredited Drug Testing is the go-to for hair or alcohol tests. With nationwide centers, hair testing is available in your city. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the crown or elsewhere on the body is needed. These tests can screen for various substances, including alcohol/ETG, providing customizable options.

In recent times, hair follicle drug testing has become a more popular method for screening. Many employers, judicial systems, and addiction professionals now favor it over urine tests. Due to zero-tolerance policies, hair follicle tests are used by employers, courts, and probation services. The main advantage is its extended detection ability, reaching back up to 90 days and collected under observation, making it very reliable. Nonetheless, urine tests remain the most precise for identifying recent drug use within a five-day frame.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing has emerged as an influential method for detecting drug and alcohol consumption. Hair can offer a prolonged history of substance use by encapsulating biomarkers within the strands of growing hair. When taken close to the scalp, hair can offer an estimated three-month detection period for alcohol and other substances. Hair collection is straightforward, difficult to tamper with, and simple to transport.

A sample measuring 1.5 inches and containing about 200 strands (comparable in size to a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp will yield approximately 100mg of hair, which is an ideal quantity for testing and verification. For EtG, additional tests, and/or panels exceeding 10, a 150mg sample is advisable. It's advisable to measure the sample on a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair isn't accessible, a similar volume of body hair may be utilized. When referring to head hair, it pertains strictly to scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other varieties (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The four primary phases in the laboratory evaluation of a drug test are Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning encompasses the initial handling of a sample into a lab’s system. This step involves confirming that the sample was correctly sealed and dispatched, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and concluding any additional data entry not provided by a digital chain of custody mechanism.

Screening provides a preliminary rapid assessment for substances of abuse. Though Screening is a cost-effective strategy to negate drug use in most samples, a positive result needs confirmation for legal admissibility. Samples with a presumptive positive in Screening necessitate further confirmation.

If a sample appears presumptive positive during Screening, additional hair is extracted from the initial sample for the Extraction process. Here, drugs are extracted from hair at considerably lower concentrations compared to other approaches (e.g., urine or oral fluid), illustrating why hair drug screening is among the most challenging methodologies.

Confirmation of any positive screen outcome is conducted using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS or LC/MS/MS. All samples with presumptive positive results are cleansed before confirmation as necessary. The complete laboratory process from Accessioning to Confirmation is scrutinized under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and accredited to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests can trace drug use for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests which have a shorter duration.
  • Hard to manipulate: Cheating a hair drug test is highly challenging, enhancing result precision.
  • Offers historical insight: It can depict a drug use pattern over time, beyond recent use alone.

Limitations:

  • Inability to detect recent use: It generally takes 5-7 days for substances to be detectable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests typically cost more than other drug testing techniques.
  • Result variability: Elements like hair color and individual growth rates can influence drug metabolite concentration in hair.

Note: Although often termed as "hair follicle tests", these analyze the hair strand rather than the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In the battle between hair follicle and urine tests, hair testing in Springfield, AR consistently triumphs. It offers far superior detection accuracy, granting employers confidence in employee assessments. Unlike urine tests, which provide a limited snapshot, hair testing reveals a long-term picture of substance abuse, ensuring more reliable outcomes and reducing uncertainty in enforcing workplace policies.

Extended Detection Window

Hair follicle drug testing offers an extended detection window of up to 90 days, providing a comprehensive review of drug use history. In Springfield, AR, this methodology gives employers insight into an individual's substance habits over an extended period, unlike other tests. This feature is invaluable for decision-making, ensuring a clear picture of an applicant or employee's commitment to a drug-free lifestyle.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

The effectiveness of hair follicle testing in Springfield, AR, comes from its tamper-resistant qualities. Traditional test methods are vulnerable to sample adulteration, but hair tests minimize this risk. With reliable outcomes that are nearly impossible to manipulate, employers can trust the results. This test method enhances confidence by delivering unquestionable data, ensuring a fair and just assessment process.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
