Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug screening in Desert Edge, California. Whether you require hair drug or alcohol testing, Accredited Drug Testing excels in hair analyses, with facilities Nationwide ready to conduct these tests. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from your head or body are sufficient for testing. Hair analyses can include drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other customized options.

In recent years, hair follicle drug tests have become a preferred method for identifying substance use. Organizations like employers, courts, and substance abuse professionals increasingly demand hair tests over standard urine analyses. Businesses with strict no-drug policies, courts, and individuals on probation opt for hair follicle analyses due to their longer detection period—up to 90 days—and challenges in cheating, although for recent use detection (within 5 days), urine tests remain the precise choice.

What it is, How it works

Utilizing hair analysis is recognized as an effective method for detecting substance and alcohol usage. Hair captures long-term data about alcohol and drugs by embedding biomarkers within the strands as they grow. When secured close to the scalp, hair can offer nearly a 3-month period for the detection of substances and alcohol. It is straightforward to collect, somewhat challenging to tamper with, and simple to transport.

Gathering a 1.5-inch sample consisting of around 200 hair strands (comparable to the thickness of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp will yield 100mg of hair, which is the optimal amount for both screening and confirmation. For EtG, additional testing, and/or screenings exceeding 10 panels, 150mg is advised. We suggest utilizing a jeweler’s scale for measuring the sample. If scalp hair cannot be obtained, a proportionate quantity of body hair may be collected. References to head hair exclusively mean scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other hair types (such as facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The principal phases in the lab treatment of a drug test include Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning pertains to the primary handling of a sample within a laboratory framework. This step consists of ensuring the sample was appropriately sealed and transported, assigning an arbitrary LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and executing any extra required data input not transferred through an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening involves a preliminary brief evaluation for drug use. While Screening serves as an economical method to dismiss drug usage in the bulk of samples, any positive results need validation for court acceptability. Any samples suspected positive in Screening require an additional confirmation.

If a sample indicates possible positivity during Screening, more hair is extracted from the initial sample and prepared for Extraction. At this point, drugs are drawn from hair at considerably lower concentrations than in other techniques (e.g., urine or oral fluid), which makes hair drug screening the most complex methodology practiced.

Confirmation of any positive Screening is executed through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS or LC/MS/MS. All samples with assumed positive results undergo cleansing before confirmation if needed. The complete laboratory operation from Accessioning to Confirmation is scrutinized under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 norms.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection timeframe: Hair drug evaluations can recognize drug usage for up to 90 days, in contrast to urine evaluations that have a limited detection timeframe.
  • Cheating is challenging: Maneuvering around a hair drug evaluation is notably difficult, enhancing result accuracy.
  • Offers historical insight: It offers a chronological drug use pattern, far from just recent activity.

Limitations:

  • Incapable of identifying recent use: Drugs need approximately 5-7 days to become traceable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug evaluations are typically pricier than alternative drug testing approaches.
  • Result variability: Elements like hair color and individual growth rate affect the levels of drug metabolites present in the hair.

Note: Despite frequently being termed as "hair follicle tests", the analysis targets the hair shaft and not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Desert Edge, CA, hair follicle testing outperforms urine tests in many aspects. These tests offer superior detection accuracy, often identifying substance use that other methods miss. While traditional urine tests can identify recent usage, they lack the comprehensive historical insight provided by hair testing. For organizations prioritizing reliable monitoring, hair tests stand out due to their accuracy and ability to uncover past substance use effectively.
Unmatched Detection ensures confidence in substance abuse assessments.

Extended Detection Window

Hair follicle testing offers a significant advantage by capturing drug use history over an extended period of up to 90 days. This expansive detection window grants employers in Desert Edge, CA, an extensive overview of an individual's substance use patterns that other test methods cannot match. Unlike urine tests which depict short-term use, hair testing allows for a broader, long-term perspective on substance habits.
Comprehensive View assist employers in making well-informed decisions.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

In Desert Edge, CA, the hair follicle testing process greatly reduces the risk of sample tampering, offering unmatched reliability and authenticity in results. Unlike urine tests, which can be more easily manipulated, hair samples provide a more permanent and secure means of gathering evidence of substance use. This method ensures that results are credible, delivering peace of mind to clients concerned about the possibility of adulterated samples.
Secure Testing is the hallmark of hair follicle methods.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
