In Sutter, CA, Accredited Drug Testing offers thorough hair follicle drug assessments. Specializing in hair and alcohol tests, we provide services in every city across the U.S., ensuring you can find a nearby center. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair is needed from the head or body for analysis. Our hair tests can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, or offer customizable options.

In recent developments, hair follicle tests for drugs have become increasingly prevalent. Many firms, judicial systems, and substance specialists now prefer this over standard urine screenings. The increased detection window, up to 90 days, and the supervised collection make it a favored method for those with strict anti-drug regulations. However, urine tests remain more effective for drug use detected within the last 5 days.

What it is, How it works

Hair analyses are increasingly recognized as an effective means for identifying drug and alcohol usage. The hair captures long-term markers of alcohol and other substances by embedding biomarkers within the hair shaft as it grows. When collected near the scalp, it can reveal drug and alcohol ingestion over an approximate 90-day period. Hair collection is straightforward, relatively resistant to tampering, and simple to transport.

A 1.5-inch section of roughly 200 hair strands (comparable in width to a #2 pencil) taken closest to the scalp will yield 100mg, which is ideal for both screening and confirmation. For EtG, additional tests, and/or analyses exceeding 10 drug panels, it is advisable to collect 150mg of the sample. It is recommended to measure the sample using a jeweler’s scale. If head hair isn't available, an equivalent quantity of body hair may be used. When mentioning head hair, we specifically mean scalp hair alone. Body hair encompasses all other types of hair (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory process for drug test results involves four key stages: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning covers the first-stage handling of a sample within a laboratory system. This step includes ensuring that the sample is correctly sealed and dispatched, generating a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and entering any supplementary data not already captured by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening entails an initial rapid assessment for drug presence. While Screening offers a cost-effective method to discount drug use in most cases, a positive result needs confirmation to be valid in legal settings. Samples showing preliminary positive results during Screening necessitate a follow-up confirmation.

If the Screening step indicates a presumptive positive result, additional hair is extracted from the initial sample and readied for Extraction. In this step, drug compounds are isolated from hair at a much lower concentration than other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), rendering hair analysis as the most technically challenging method.

Confirmation of any positive Screening outcome is completed using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All potentially positive samples undergo washing before confirmation as necessary. The complete laboratory procedure from Accessioning to Confirmation is validated in accordance with both CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection timeframe: Hair drug tests identify drug usage up to 90 days, unlike urine tests which have a limited detection duration.
  • High resistance to manipulation: Cheating a hair drug test is highly improbable, ensuring more reliable results.
  • Historical insight: It charts drug use over time, rather than merely recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Cannot capture immediate use: Drugs require roughly 5-7 days to become evident in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug analyses tend to cost more than other drug testing methods.
  • Variability in findings: Elements like hair color and individual differences in hair growth may influence metabolite concentration in the hair.

Note: Despite frequently being termed "hair follicle tests", the analysis targets the hair strand and not the hair follicle below the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

For residents of Sutter, CA, hair follicle tests outshine urine tests by offering pronounced detection accuracy and reliability. They provide a more extensive view of drug history, capturing usage that urine tests might miss. Due to the test's comprehensive window, up to 90 days, employers gain a clearer picture, which assists in maintaining a drug-free community.
Additionally, hair tests offer greater resistance to cheating methods.

Extended Detection Window

Employers in Sutter, CA, benefit from the extended detection window of hair follicle tests. Unlike urine tests, hair testing reviews drug history over a 90-day span, granting companies deeper insights into an individual's substance use track record. This extended time frame allows for timely interventions, should an issue arise, fostering a safer and more informed workplace environment.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Hair follicle tests in Sutter, CA, are formulated to significantly limit tampering opportunities. The meticulous collection process ensures authentic and reliable samples are collected, minimizing the risk of substitution or adulteration. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
