In Viola, California, Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services. Whether in need of a hair or alcohol test, our centers across all U.S. cities are equipped for hair testing. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the head or elsewhere is required. Hair tests offer analysis for drugs, alcohol/ETG, and other specialized options.

Recently, drug testing methods have increasingly incorporated hair follicle tests. Many workplaces, judicial systems, and Substance Abuse experts now favor hair tests over urine tests. Hair follicle testing suits employers with strict anti-drug policies, courts, and probation supervision. It stands out for its extended 90-day detection period, observed sample collection, and resistance to tampering. However, urine tests remain most effective for detecting recent drug use within 5 days.

What it is, How it works

Hair examinations have emerged as a robust method for identifying the consumption of drugs and alcohol. Hair retains a comprehensive timeline of alcohol and drug exposure by embedding biomarkers within the strands as the hair grows. When sourced near the scalp, hair can reveal drug and alcohol use within a timeframe of up to about three months. Collecting hair is an uncomplicated process, difficult to tamper with, and convenient to transport.

A 1.5-inch portion consisting of approximately 200 hair strands (roughly the girth of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp offers 100mg of hair, which is the perfect amount for screening and confirmation. For EtG, extra options, and/or tests exceeding 10 panels, 150mg of the sample is advised. It is suggested to measure the sample using a jeweler's scale. Should scalp hair be inaccessible, a similar quantity of body hair may be taken. When mentioning head hair, it pertains to scalp hair exclusively. Body hair is a term used for all other hair varieties (such as facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The four critical stages in the laboratory processing of a drug testing outcome include Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning involves the preliminary handling of a sample into a lab's framework. This involves confirming that the sample was properly sealed and dispatched, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and finishing any supplementary data entry not accommodated by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening involves an initial rapid assessment for substances of abuse. Screening serves as an economical approach to exclude drug usage in most samples, yet a positive screening requires confirmation to be valid in a legal setting. Any samples that are notably positive during Screening must undergo secondary confirmation.

If a sample is notably positive during Screening, more hair is retrieved from the original specimen and readied for Extraction. In this phase, drugs are drawn from hair at much lower concentrations compared to other practices (such as urine or oral fluid), which makes hair drug testing the most intricate methodology to execute.

Confirmation of any positive screening outcome is carried out through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. Every presumptively positive sample is cleansed before confirmation as necessary. The whole laboratory process from Accessioning to Confirmation is evaluated under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests are capable of identifying drug consumption for up to 90 days, as opposed to urine tests which offer a shorter detection period.
  • Tough to deceive: Cheating a hair drug test is exceedingly tough, ensuring more precise outcomes.
  • Yields historical insights: It can indicate a pattern of drug use spanning an interval of time, not solely recent usage.

Limitations:

  • Incapacity to identify recent use: Drugs become detectable in hair approximately 5-7 days after use.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests typically cost more than other drug testing techniques.
  • Discrepancies in results: Factors like hair color and personal differences in hair growth can influence the concentration of drug metabolites in the hair.

Note: Although commonly referred to as "hair follicle tests," the examination itself evaluates the hair strand and not the follicle located under the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Viola, CA, hair tests outshine traditional urine tests due to their superior detection and reliability. The extended time frame for detection in hair samples surpasses the limitations of urine analyses. Hair follicle testing provides a comprehensive look into substance use, surpassing urine tests by offering more inclusive insights into a person's drug history.

Hair testing offers significant advantages over urine in Viola, CA. Its extensive detection period provides insights beyond the narrow window of urine tests, offering reliable results. Employers and authorities turning to hair tests gain an edge in precision and detection, reducing the uncertainties linked to traditional testing methods.

Extended Detection Window

Viola, CA residents benefit from hair follicle testing's extended detection window, monitoring drug use over a substantial 90-day period. This time span offers a retrospective view, unrivaled by urine tests. Such comprehensive analysis helps employers understand the substance history of applicants and employees, enhancing decision-making processes.

Hair testing in Viola, CA provides a broader detection scope than many traditional methods. By covering up to 90 days of potential drug use, it allows employers to assess a candidate's true history with substances. This extended detection period presents a substantial advantage, offering a more thorough evaluation in hiring and monitoring practices.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

With hair follicle tests in Viola, CA, the risk of tampering diminishes significantly. This testing method hinders attempts of sample manipulation, presenting an almost insurmountable challenge for dishonest practices. By reducing adulteration risks, hair testing supplies reliable and incontrovertible results for employers and legal entities.

Employers in Viola, CA increasingly trust hair testing as a tamper-resistant solution. Unlike urine tests, where sample integrity can be questionable, hair tests provide assurance against adulteration. They ensure that the outcomes reflect genuine use patterns, thereby protecting the interests of all parties involved in the process.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
