Accredited Drug Testing provides thorough hair follicle drug testing services in Bergen Park, Colorado. Whether you need a hair drug or alcohol test, our expertise in hair testing spans across numerous Nationwide testing centers capable of handling your requirements. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from your head or body is necessary. Hair tests can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other tailored testing solutions.

In recent times, hair follicle drug testing has increasingly been utilized for drug screening purposes. Employers, courts, and Substance Abuse specialists now often prefer hair drug testing over traditional urine tests. This method is favored by employers with strict drug policies, courts, and those under probation due to its extended detection capability of up to 90 days, its secure collection process, and its resistance to tampering. However, urine tests remain the most precise for identifying drug use within the last 5 days.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis is now recognized as a significant method for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair encapsulates a prolonged record of substance use by embedding biomarkers within the strands as they grow. When clipped near the scalp, hair can reveal up to roughly a 90-day detection period for both alcohol and drugs. Collection of hair is straightforward, relatively resistant to tampering, and convenient for transport.

A sample measuring 1.5 inches with around 200 hairs (comparable to the thickness of a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp yields 100mg of hair, which is the optimal sample for testing and verification. For EtG, supplementary tests, and/or analyses above 10 panels, a specimen weighing 150mg is suggested. It is advisable to measure the sample using a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair isn’t available, a similar quantity of body hair might be collected. When mentioning head hair, we mean scalp hair exclusively. Body hair encompasses all other hair types (e.g., facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The four principal steps in processing a drug test outcome in the lab include Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning is the initial step to integrate a specimen into the lab system. It entails confirming the sample’s correct sealing and shipping, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and finishing any extra data input not covered by an electronic tracking system.

Screening conducts an initial swift evaluation for illicit drugs. Though Screening is a budget-friendly means to discard drug use for the majority of specimens, a positive result from Screening necessitates confirmation to stand in legal proceedings. Any samples that are initially positive in Screening require further confirmation.

If a sample tests presumptively positive in Screening, additional hair is extracted from the original sample and processed for Extraction. In Extraction, drugs are retrieved from hair at considerably reduced concentrations than other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), making hair drug testing notably challenging to execute.

Any positive result in Screening is validated through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. Presumptively positive samples undergo washing before confirmation as necessary. The comprehensive lab process from Accessioning to Confirmation is scrutinized per both CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection timeframe: Hair drug testing can trace substance consumption for up to 90 days, unlike urine testing, which covers a shorter period.
  • Resistance to tampering: Attempts to manipulate a hair drug test are considerably difficult, ensuring more reliable results.
  • Reveals historical usage: It may outline a pattern of substance use over time, beyond just recent activity.

Limitations:

  • Inability to detect recent consumption: It takes about 5-7 days before drugs are discoverable in hair.
  • Expense: Generally, hair drug testing costs more than alternative drug-testing techniques.
  • Result variations: Influences like hair color and personal hair growth differences may impact the level of drug metabolites found in hair.

Note: Although frequently labeled "hair follicle tests", the analysis targets the hair strand rather than the scalp’s follicle.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing in Bergen Park, CO

In Bergen Park, CO, hair follicle testing outperforms traditional urine tests thanks to its superior detection accuracy. Hair tests are remarkably reliable, as they track substance use over a longer span of time, unlike urine tests, which are limited to recent use. This expansive detection window is invaluable to employers and courts seeking comprehensive substance history evaluation.

Moreover, hair tests offer a sturdier examination process, unaffected by typical urine test evasion methods. The methodical observation ensures dependable outcomes, enhancing trust in the testing mechanism. Consequently, hair follicle testing stands as the optimal choice for those prioritizing integrity in substance detection.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
