Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Bond, Colorado. If you require a hair drug or alcohol test, our expertise lies in hair testing, and we maintain facilities in every major city across the nation equipped to conduct these tests. Typically, a length of 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the crown or body suffices. Hair tests are analyzable for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other tailored testing options.

Recently, drug testing methods increasingly feature the hair follicle test. Various employers, courts, and substance abuse experts demand this test over the conventional urine test. Hair follicle tests cater to employers with strict anti-drug policies, judicial systems, and probationary individuals. Their main advantage is a longer detection window for drug use—up to 90 days, with an observable collection process which minimizes cheating. However, for recent drug use, particularly within 5 days, urine tests remain the most precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing has emerged as a compelling method for identifying drug and alcohol use. Hair serves as a repository for alcohol and drug history, capturing biomarkers within the strands of hair as it grows. When sampled near the scalp, hair can offer a detection window of up to about three months for alcohol and drugs. Hair is straightforward to collect, relatively challenging to tamper with, and convenient to transport.

A 1.5-inch section comprising roughly 200 hair strands (approximately the thickness of a #2 pencil) nearest the scalp will yield 100mg of hair, which is the preferred sample size for initial testing and verification. For EtG, additional tests, and/or panels exceeding 10, a 150mg sample is advised. Utilizing a jeweler’s scale for weighing the sample is suggested. If head hair is unavailable, a similar quantity of body hair can be used. Reference to head hair specifically means scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other hair forms (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The primary phases in the lab processing of a drug test result include Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning encompasses the initial integration of a sample into a laboratory’s process flow. This stage ensures the sample is sealed and shipped correctly, assigns a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and finalizes any remaining data entries not captured by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening operates as an initial rapid assessment for drugs of misuse. Although Screening is a cost-efficient method to discount drug use in most samples, a positive screening necessitates confirmation for legal acceptability. Any samples testing positively in Screening require further confirmation.

If a sample generates a positive result in the Screening phase, additional hair is extracted from the original sample for Extraction. At this point, drugs are isolated from hair at notably lower concentrations than other methods (e.g., urine or saliva), marking hair drug screening as particularly challenging to perform.

Confirmation of positive screening results is implemented using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. Each sample that tests positively is washed as needed prior to confirmation. The entire sequence from Accessioning to Confirmation is evaluated according to both CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests can reveal drug use for as long as 90 days, unlike urine tests which have a briefer detection period.
  • Challenge to tamper: Cheating a hair drug test is exceedingly difficult, enhancing result accuracy.
  • Displays historical usage: It can depict a pattern of drug use over time, beyond just recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Inability to detect recent use: It requires about 5-7 days before drugs become detectable in hair.
  • Higher cost: Hair drug tests are usually more pricey compared to other testing methods.
  • Result variations: Elements like hair color and personal differences in hair growth can influence the drug metabolite concentration in hair.

Note: Though often labeled as "hair follicle tests", the analysis actually focuses on the hair strand and not the follicle beneath the scalp

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why does hair follicle testing outshine urine testing in Bond, CO? The primary advantage is superior detection accuracy. Unlike urine tests, which offer a narrower detection timeframe, hair tests provide a detailed account of substance use history, detecting drugs for up to 90 days. This enhanced accuracy gives stakeholders confidence in test results that are more comprehensive and reliable.

Extended Detection Window

The benefit of an extended detection window sets hair follicle testing apart in Bond, CO. This method evaluates substance use over a period of up to 90 days, a critical advantage for businesses wanting a thorough understanding of an individual’s substance habits. Hair tests grant employers a broad lens into the substance use history of their employees or candidates.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Hair follicle testing is a tamper-resistant method in Bond, CO, significantly reducing the risk of sample adulteration. The inherent nature of hair testing ensures that samples are difficult to manipulate, providing results that are reliable and beyond question. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
