Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug screening in Peyton, Colorado. Whether you require a hair drug or alcohol test, we specialize in hair analysis and have facilities across cities nationwide capable of conducting these tests. Generally, you need 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from your crown or body. Hair examinations can detect substances, alcohol/ETG, or other tailored testing requirements.
In recent times, hair follicle drug testing has become a more prevalent method. Many employers, judicial systems, and Substance Abuse professionals are opting for hair drug tests over conventional urine tests. Employers with zero-tolerance policies, courts, and those on probation prefer hair tests. The key advantage is the extended detection span for drug usage, extended to around 90 days, collected under supervision, and very challenging to manipulate. Yet, urine tests remain the most precise for drug use within the past 5 days.

Hair examinations have become recognized as a significant resource for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair retains a prolonged history of alcohol and various substances by capturing biomarkers in the hair strand fibers as they grow. When acquired near the scalp, hair can offer around a three-month detection period for drugs and alcohol. It is easy to gather, challenging to tamper with, and simple to transport.
A sample of 1.5 inches consisting of roughly 200 hair strands (comparable to a #2 pencil thickness) nearest to the scalp delivers 100mg of hair, representing an optimal sample for analysis and validation. For EtG, supplementary components, and/or examinations exceeding 10 panels, 150mg of the hair sample is advised. The specimen should ideally be measured using a jeweler’s scale. In cases where scalp hair cannot be obtained, an equivalent quantity of body hair is suitable. In this context, head hair only refers to scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other types (facial, underarm, etc.).
Process Overview
The key steps in processing a drug test in a lab comprise Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.
During Accessioning, a sample is initially processed into the lab system. This step ensures the sample is properly sealed and transported, assigns a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes any missing data entry that is not included in an electronic chain of custody.
Screening provides a preliminary rapid assessment for the presence of drugs. While it is a cost-efficient method to exclude drug usage for the majority of samples, any sample returning a positive screen must undergo confirmation to be eligible for court proceedings. A sample presumed positive in Screening will necessitate further validation.
For a sample suspected positive at the Screening phase, an additional portion of hair from the initial specimen is extracted and set for the Extraction phase. Here, substances are extracted from hair at a notably lower concentration than in other techniques such as urine or oral fluid, making hair drug screening particularly challenging.
Confirmation of any positive result from the screening is executed using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS methods. All samples presumed positive are washed before being confirmed as necessary. The comprehensive laboratory process from Accessioning to Confirmation is evaluated under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and with accreditation to ISO/IEC 17025 standards.
Advantages of hair drug testing:
Limitations:
Note: Although commonly termed "hair follicle tests," the analysis is conducted on the hair strand rather than the follicle beneath the scalp.
